I really enjoy this, but just wondered if anyone is of the same opinion as me. This series there seems to be a lot more 'navel gazing' and stories of how we grew up etc, rather than 'the race'. Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed it?

Yes, I agree - and I wish they wouldn't.  If this turns into yet another programme filler with personal stories to tug at the heartstrings it won't be worth watching.  Anything like that gets switched off here.

Yes I watched the early series but you are correct now it's become a virue signalling diversity fest. I've not seen a second of it this time but I can guarantee the content.

I agree. I'm not interested in anybody's personal struggles and sob stories, whatever they are, they bore me.

It's not just one couple - each of them has a sob-story going on.  It got on my nerves last night.

I've watched all the previous ones but gave up on this.  Didn't warm to any of the couples apart from the ex-married couple who got knocked out.

Also find it difficult to enjoy as I have constant intrusive questions about how exactly it's shot: embedded camera person, but there must also be others with them for establishing shots and drone shots.  I'm sure each couple won't be given the full amount of money at the outset lest it be lost or stolen, so there must be at least one producer  of some kind (and a medic, no doubt) trailing them.

Huge number of people involved if you look at the credits - researchers/producers will have had to choose the routes and check them out, and a massive amount of editing before broadcast.   Oh, and China looks ghastly, not somewhere I'd ever want to go.

In all honesty there's personal dramas every year. Last year that bloke who won whose parents died, the girl born without a womb. Year in Canada the winner was losing her sight and the Scottish couple were handing trouble conceiving

This is the first series I've watched and there does seem to be a lot of navel gazing!
