Carry on cleo used the same set and costumes as "Cleopatra" 1963, starring Liz Taylor and Richard Burton. You van even see Sid james wearing the same costume as Richard Burton.

what as khandro?

TTT. I was at the bar at the Pinewood inhouse, Iver Heath Studio Club with Peter Finch & Finlay Currie & more, during the making of the original Cleopatra, when 'Carry on Cleo' was mooted as a future caper, to great hillarity. But from that it did become a reality.

Question Author

wow that's a nice memory.

TTT, Not only was it a funny idea, production could immediately see it was an economically sound one because the sets, props and costumes could be reused making it a relatively cheap film to make.

And that's the reason for Sid James' ill-fitting clothing, - which only adds to the comedy.

Waste not, want not.

Carry on Don't lose your head and follow that camel were not prefixed "Carry on" originally. Peter Rogers ws trying to move into the US. They were produced by Rank and had to drop the "Carry on" prefix for legal reasons.

Maybe that's why the titles of those two seem clumsy and don't flow properly.

Question Author

yes a fair observation OG

if they'd started of as carry ons they'd have been something like:

Carry on Robespierre
