Two things I don't understand in regards to the overturning of Roe v Wade.
1. Is it not the case that women choosing to have an abortion can/could do so by taking pills available via the Internet?
2.Can criminalising those who carry out abortions, doctors etc, be anything but pointless when a need for abortions will inevitably be fulfilled by back streets practitioners causing more deaths and adverse health outcomes?

Well pardon me but the idea that the majority of women use abortion as a means of contraception is beyond ridiculous. Abortion isn’t nice. Best way to combat is not to try to ban it. It won’t work

If it was that easy (taking pills alone) abortion clinics wouldn’t be necessary at all.
(I pressed send before I’d finished, above)

2. They’re going back to the grim dark ages.

Cloverjo: You may be right b,t like the morning-after pill, it was my understanding that pills were available through the Internet.
I know pills are available on the internet, but they only work for very early pregnancies. Like just a few weeks.
'Pro lifers' are not interested in the practicalities.

They believe abortion is wrong and should therefore be illegal.

For a number of reasons, including Trump and Biden, school massacres
and guns, contraception, abortion etc. the U.S. seems to me to be in,
and what might well be, a swift and possibly terminal decline.

Cloverjo: Point taken. I wasn't aware of that.
I think you are right P. America is self destructing.
The weakness was in that Roe v Wade case.
There was always a danger that a reactionary Supreme Court could overrule it regardless of the nonsense of doing so after a gap of 50 years

I'm an old bloke and I relish the fact that, in my view, Britain has become a vastly more tolerant, inclusive, liberal society than was the case when I was young. It saddens me that America seems to be headed in very reactionary and intolerant direction.

But I don’t think America is self destructing
This was an easy thing for a certain group of people to do given the “right” circumstances
Well pardon me but the idea that the majority of women use abortion as a means of contraception is beyond ridiculous.

Most Americans oppose this albeit it there are a lot of very vocal supporters

Pence just called for a total ban across every state. Good grief.
A lot of states - about half - probably will.
Pence is a religious fanatic.
Surprised Trump is such a big fan: he doesn’t strike me as a very good advert for contraceptives
The SCOTUS has been loaded with mysoginistic authoritarian theocrats.
Why stop at abortion?
Contraception is just as evil in the eyes of some.
I can remember being at a concert in Ireland when a band (can’t remember who) threw inflated condoms - then illegal - into the crowd.
i find it very odd. apparently the right to bear arms is enshrined in the constitution and couldnt possibly be changed, however, this bit of the constitution can be.
In all honesty i see the american authorities as little better than the taliban in telling women what to do and being religious zealots
When abortions are outlawed . . . only outlaws will perform abortions.
