Has anyone seen this drama about Julia Childs, the French Chef? I think Sarah Lancashire is brilliant in the role and her accent is perfect.

I'm wondering though whether the Hyacinth Bucket character in Keeping Up Appearances was loosely based on Julia Childs?

I've not seen it but here's the trailer for anyone interested:

Cheers, Chris :o)

It must just be her voice, hair and certain mannerisms that reminded me of HB. Obviously not the delusional grandeur ;o)
I love the look of this!
if anyone hasn't seen the film Julie/Julia with Amy Adams and Meryl Streep then they should, it's a great film about Julie who decides to cook all the recipes in Julia Childs French cookbook, Streep plays Julia Child, and is as always perfect. It's charming and funny in equal measure.
Hi Emmie - you still up too?? No Ive not seen that - sounds fab tho.
Julia wasn't a French Chef, she was an American who cooked French cuisine. As mentioned look out for the film with Meryl Streep it's wonderful.
for my sins smow, just having a few minutes, then going to try for some more sleep, check out Julia/Julia it's funny and the cooking is amazing.
The trailer for Julie & Julia, as mentioned by Emmie:
Ahh that looks fab.
I cannot comment about the hyacinth bucket connection, but I thought this was a wonderful series, and that Sarah Lancashire was brilliant in the title role. She is a greatBritish actress, and deserves to be on the list of Uk national treasures. I also loved the actor who played her husband… in fact everyone in it was brilliant. Definitely worth the time spent to watch the 8;episodes.
is it only on sky, if so then i am am unable to watch it, as i don't have Sky.

I know she wasn't a French chef, Emmie, but she had a tv series called The French Chef.

There doesn't seem to be a connection between HB and JC but she just reminded me of her, that's all.

Sarah Lancashire is one of the most versatile actors ever and brilliant at whatever role she plays.
i agree she is good in whatever she plays, i would like to see this new series but i can't as i don't have sky.
at 6ft 2inches Julia Child towered over most people, Meryl streep does a good impression of being that tall,
see the movie i mentioned Tiggs it's a very heartwarming film.
Question Author
I'll look out for it, Emmie. I do remember the film coming out but it wasn't the type of film that would appeal to me.
its very good, with a great performance from Meryl Streep, just the right note in her voice and you can see the real Julia, who must have been a hoot. Her husband in the film is Stanley Tucci, a fine actor and well suited to the part.
Question Author
I like Stanley Tucci, he was brilliant in The Hunger Games trilogy.
like Meryl, he is very funny in this, he plays a devoted husband and helpmate, and i think it's one of his best roles.
