I got completely muddled up with Grayson's Art club and and a programme (on Sky Arts I think) with some bearded bloke who does awful landscapes using weird techniques. He's American I think,

Would that be 'a happy little tree' Bob Ross, pat ?
Lol!
So did you watch tonight's program?
There were some emotional stories connected to some of the pieces.

Yep, listen to him talk for long enough and he'll put you to sleep.
Question Author
Yes Tony. He's dead now apparently
Yes pat, but his art show's live on.
Question Author
I saw the very end Pasta When I realised how stupid I was! ;0)
Grayson'd be delighted you mixed them up, Pat! :-)
Question Author
Obsessed with mountains!!
Yes, with trees and creeks.
Question Author
I'll watch it on All 4 on the box. Grayson that is. Poor Grayson !
It's on catchup...if you have it.
Bob Ross...not the same at all....
Just looked at a few works of his...they might glow in the dark ;)
Question Author
Have you actually watched a Bob Ross where he paints. He doesn't often use a brush. It's quite clever really, but not my cup of tea!!!
Yes, he seems to use a variety of scraper type tools.
Question Author
And yes, he puts you to sleep, Tony!
I think I saw a video once. I'm not all that familiar with him, but his work looked horribly dated and not terribly original.
Immediate update...just watched him using a palette knife to do mountains. Not my thing either.
Question Author
It reminds me of the pictures hung on walls in the 60s!! Gaudy!

I think that Bob Ross is great for showing newcomers the mechanics of slapping paint around with a bit of confidence. Great for someone who would like to do something creative - the subject is up to the would-be painter, but the ways of going about manipulating the paint with brush, knife, finger or whatever are what is important. Choc-box, maybe, but doing your own choc-box (or better!) is something else and a good way to pass your time.
