I see Richard Madely has been taken to hospital 'as a precaution' after falling ill on the show.

I remember forty years ago when we as a nation watched aghast as Clive James showed clips of Endurance', a Japanese game show where contestants were tortured for the entertainment of the viewing masses, and he quite rightly pointed out that this was a hugely horrible way to offer something disguised as amusement for anyone who was disturtbed enough to find entertainment in it. We all put it down to a fundamental cruelty in the Japanese psyche, and nodded that we are very very different in the West.

Now, we have exactly the same thing, except without even the poor excuse of offering money prizes to unknowns - we have it with rich 'celebrities' being paid fees to humilaite themselves for the edification of the viewing public.

What sort of a viewing nation have we become where making people ill is seen as entertainment? If we have slid down that path in a mere forty years, what sort of a dystopian future are we headed for?

Are we going to torture animals for amusement? Oh, I forgot, we've already done that in this horrible programme - but because the creatures concerned do not make any noise when eaten alive, and are not judged attractive enough for anyone to disgusted at their treatment, only their appearence.

I honestly think we have to have a serious look at what sort of a culture we are turning into, and maybe think about stopping this nonsense, however popular it may be.

Popularity is simply not justification for this kind of programme - let's be honest, you could produce a show of bear baiting and it would achieve an audience.

Time to stop pandering to the worst in people, before we start 'entertaining' ourselves with spectacles that would make the ancient Romans turn away.

Pasta the reason people participate is simple - money. Danny Miller has recently become a father and has stated that the money from this will enable him to take a year off !
Oops for 3 weeks 'work'
I can proudly state I have never and will never watch a program of this calibre and as for soaps! How people watch them is beyond me then actually ask questions as if it’s real life!!!
weecalf: //I disagree with most of what’s been said . It’s no worse than cookery programmes .//

Crikey what sort of cookery programmes do YOU watch lol!
The whole 'reality' thing is playing to the lowest denominator, of whom there are many. The ironic thing is none of it is remotely 'reality' in any shape or form.
" What kind of Cookery programmes do you watch?"
I don't know but it seems most cookery programmes contain rentagob the greengrocer talking out of his backside.
I’m putting my head above the AB parapet , I watch it :0)
Oh and slap my thigh and call be Dick!
I watch two soaps as well :0)))
Richard Madely has had to leave the show now because when he left the Castle to go into hospital he broke the Covid bubble.
I find the whole Richard madeley story suspect. He wrote "I started to feel briefly unwell in the small hours...He was immediately checked by an on site medical team, a paramedic in a instant response car and emergency ambulance were dispatched. I feel briefly unwell most days, cannot even get an appointment. The upshot is, he's now left the programme and hospital with not a word what was wrong. Having spent 72 hours on the show he will still receive his £200,000.
I like him, even before he went in the castle
I don't mind cookery shows in moderation. There are too many in my opinion but I can see why people watch them and enjoy them.

And I watch Corrie. Have done since it started, but i never mind if I miss episodes and really do know it's not real. In fact I usually criticise it as I watch it, but it does have humerous bits. If people watch soaps I can see why, especially the house bound and elderly.

Obviously, Bobbi isn't alone in watching the Jungle, not many would admit it. But each to his own.
I have never watched the programme so am going by what I have read. I can't understand how they get away with the way they treat living creatures - I wonder what would happen if it was bunnies or kittens.
Red, people ask questions about dramas in the TV section when they don't understand something or miss episodes. It's really no different to missing their favourite soaps. The don't believe they are real life
That's how I feel Roo. But then if I tread on a spider or other small creature I feel sorry (and find myself apologising!).
I agree totally with Vulcan @1642.

My guess....a panic attack.....an anxiety crisis.....an emotional eruption........call it what you may.

My worry is that tomorrow morning 06.30 the GMB team will dribble on about poor Richard ad nauseum.

Vulcan has said it all
There was a big enquiry last year regarding all the creatures that were escaping into the Welsh Countryside. They were beetles ,cockroaches and several other non-native species. No doubt there will be another load escaping again this year.
I don't watch it because I don't like the way they treat live critters. I don't care how much discomfort the humans endure, but leave the critters out of it ! I do like Ant & Dec though.
Ah but do think Corrie is real BS? ;0)
Naomi-//Does anyone know what's wrong with Richard Madeley?//

Now there's a question with many, many possible answers.

To address the OP, I don't watch the show, nor do I watch any other shows those Geordie idiots are involved with, but the show is immensely popular, relatively cheap to produce (I imagine) and the celeb's careers often receive a huge boost by appearing on the show. People like watching trash. What other possible explanation can there be for Coronation Street having lasted 60-odd years?
