I was looking for something to watch this evening on Amazon Prime, but each film I chose didn’t have subtitles. Does anyone know why this would be and whether there is any department at Amazon to ask about it?

Amazon Prime Video seems to have a poor reputation for providing subtitles. They apparently don't seem to think that it's very important. Netflix is seen by many as being far better in that respect: https://www.amazonforum.com/s/question/0D54P00006zSwamSAC/why-does-amazon-prime-not-offer-subtitles-for-all-films-shows-as-netflix-does

Thank you for the link. Unfortunately there is no response to any of the complaints so although I’m not alone it looks as though it’s something I must put up with.
According to Ofcom, Amazon Prime Video has subtitles on 87.7% of its output. (There are no figures for Netflix as, being based in the Netherlands, it doesn't come under Ofcom's control). However that figure might be misleading in that it could, for example, be achieved by having 100% of TV shows subtitled but a far smaller number of movies carrying subtitles:

Action on Hearing Loss (which is the new name for the Royal National Institute for Deaf People) has an ongoing campaign to increase the amount of subtitling on TV programming. Click on 'Timeline of the campaign so far':
