We don't have ginnels in London. The best is a snog behind the bike shed!
I thought the same as you bobbi. Mary's good at these oneliners
Have you noticed how black Fizz's teeth are on the bottom row?
What's a ginnel?

Question Author
Roy, there’s no gap between houses in Corrie
Back lane?

It's the gap between rows of terraced houses.
Maybe the ginnel was from her past when she lived in a terraced house?
>>> It's the gap between rows of terraced houses

. . . or any footpath that's not alongside a road. (At least it is in Sheffield, where I lived for 20 years. It might cut across allotments, or pass between industrial buildings, but it's still a 'ginnel').
Question Author
Hilda always referred to the Ginnel , it’s the gap/ lane between two streets
Think that's what we would call a close in my part of the country. Close can be the entrance to a tenement block or a narrow path between two buildings.
Question Author
Maggie like the Broons? ;)
No it’s a narrow lane running between the back of two rows of streets
Thanks Bobbi, can't think what we would call that - maybe just a lane or wynd.
Question Author
We’d call it a back lane Maggie :0)
Not necessarily just the lane between back-to-back housing but any narrow passageway between buildings really.
