ITV. Starring the superb Rory Kinnear as Lord Lucan. I watched the first of the two episodes and was not disappointed. Excellent. A breath of fresh air.

I wonder if anyone knows what happened to him?

I don't know if that's the same programme I saw a few years back. In it Lucan was helped by powerful friends to flee abroad and went to ground in Switzerland. Much later the same friends smuggled him back to England but he was a danger to them, having too much information about their activities. In mid voyage he was shot and killed and thrown overboard. All speculation, of course.

Not sure it's worth watching the rest now, jackdaw. :o/
Sorry if it's the same programme, I didn't mean to spoil it for you.
Question Author
I’m sure you didn’t but you’ve told the whole story. That will spoil it for anyone.
Naomi you did ask if anyone knew what happened to him and jackdaw was just answering your question
Question Author
Ellie, I wouldn’t be asking what happened to him at the end of a tv drama I was enjoying watching would I. I meant what really happened to him - in real life.
But surely the drama was based on real life
Question Author
In real life he disappeared without trace. His whereabouts have remained a mystery fir about 50 years.
Wish I hadn't opened my gob now. I didn't know whether it was the same programme I'd seen, at least 6 or 7 years ago, maybe more.
Ellie, JD just told the story of the drama which is not what Naomi asked.
So sorry that I opened my gob too, clearly misunderstood the situation!
To borrow a QI trope, nobody knows.

Now stop asking questions just to get into a barney.
Oh dear LOL.
Ellie I just luuurve your avatar. So pretty;-))
Awh, thank you ladybirder, glad you like it !
By asking the question about what happened to him, either someone would give the imagined outcome which JD did or the actual outcome, were it known.

Either way, the plot was likely to have been revealed.

Don’t worry about it, Jackdaw. We all make mistakes.

I see in the related posts Mikey posted a thread on this programme.

Douglas, //To borrow a QI trope, nobody knows.//

Somebody must know. I can’t see how he could have disappeared without help. He must have had trustworthy friends to keep his secret all these years.

Incidentally, the quickest way to get into a barney, douglas, is by being unnecessarily rude to people.
Lucan is a lovely town near Dublin. Apropos of nothing, I expect that's where his title came from.

It looks like you're right, Spicerack. How very interesting.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earl_of_Lucan
He was assumed dead in the 90s and his executors were granted probate to wind up his estate. His son succeeded to the title when his father was declared legally dead in 1999 I think. A death cert. was issued in 2016.

If he were still alive he would be 86 now.
Question Author
I remember reading about that, dave.
