I recorded and watched the second episode of Champion the Wonder Horse (Talking Pictures TV). I sang along with the opening credits, but when I sang "The time will come when everyone will know the name of ... Champion, the Wonder Horse" Mike Stewart sang something different. I unfortunately deleted the recording. I thought perhaps I had been getting it wrong all these years, but when I watched the third episode Mike Stewart and I were in unison. Did anyone else record and keep the second episode (possibly the first too)? Can you tell me what the alternative words were?

Frankie Laine.
Champion the wonder horse
Champion the wonder horse
Like a streak of lightning flashing cross the sky
Like the swiftest arrow
Whizzin' from a bow
Like a mighty cannonball he seems to fly
You'll hear about him everywhere you go
The time will come when everyone will know the name of Champion the wonder horse
Champion the wonder horse
If you hear a clap of thunder
But there is no sign of rain
Then you know it must be Champion
Gallopin' across the plain
If you feel the wind arisin'
Then it's like a hurricane
Then you know it must be Champion
Gallopin' gallopin'
Gallopin across the plains
Champion the wonder horse
Champion the wonder horse
Like a streak of lightning flashing cross the sky
Like the swiftest arrow
Whizzin' from a bow
Like a mighty cannonball he seems to fly
You'll hear about him everywhere you go
The time will come when everyone will know the name of Champion the wonder horse
Champion the wonder horse

Frankie Laine recorded the song, but IMDb (and several other websites) informs me that Mike Stewart sang the song on the TV series. I know what I heard, and I heard something different from what I was singing in my head. I was so surprised at hearing something different that I just didn't remember what I was hearing. I've asked Talking Pictures, but they haven't got back to me.

You were right bert45. For that line he sings,

'...Out West there's not a man who doesn't know the name of...'

'Out west there's not a man who doesn't know the name of...'
*high five* or some similar nonsense :D
Snap! :-)
Although uncredited, the title song was sung by Mike Stewart, and later recorded by Frankie Laine. It was written by Marilyn Bergman and Norman Luboff.

"Champion the Wonder Horse! Champion the Wonder Horse!
Like a streak of lightnin' flashin' cross the sky,
Like the swiftest arrow whistlin' from a bow,
Like a mighty cannonball he seems to fly.
You'll hear about him everywhere you go.
The time'll come when everyone will know
(Up to episode 2, this line is "I wish there's not a man who doesn't know")
The name of Champion the Wonder Horse!"

The version recorded by Frankie Laine contains an additional verse, and repeats the chorus. (According to YouTube, Laine had intended to record an album for children, but this was never completed.) Laine's version was recorded on the Philips label, with Paul Weston and his Orchestra.
He doesn't sing 'wish' Johnny.
that is from the wikipedia page ^^
nut out west sounds more plausible
That's the line that version that is on the YouTube that I posted.
So it's good to know the history of the song. I used to watch it way back when.
> *high five* or some similar nonsense :D

"Yee haw"! Or "yippee-ki-yay" if you prefer ...
> He doesn't sing 'wish' Johnny.

Is he wrong? He's not right!
Mamyalynne the 2 lines are used in the video I posted.
The 'Out West there's' line is at the beginning and the 'I wish there's' line is at the end.
So hopefully it's all sorted. Great show and timeless song
I was answering Bert who asked about the opening credits and the words sang.
Just fast forwarded to the end of the provided video link, also sings 'out west' in the closing theme.
Thanks for the best answer Bert45, but I feel that it was a joint effort. Pleased with the result.

The sung lyric at the end doesn’t match the subtitles that I use on YouTube.

Many thanks to kwillmott for finding the episode on YouTube. Johnny.5 has found a mondegreen. It's definitely 'Out west there's not a man who doesn't know the name of Champion, the Wonder Horse.'
Did you all notice a very early appearance of Clarence LeRoy Van Cleef Jr., better known now as Lee Van Cleef? I wonder why they changed the lyrics. Perhaps somebody thought it was too boastful to talk (sing) of Champion's name being known by every man. It was something for the future. I bet Mike Stewart thought it was all done and dusted till somebody called him and said, "We've had a better idea." I'm always amazed how Barry Curtis managed to swing himself up onto the back of the horse, and how he managed to ride it without reins or stirrups. The films were obviously made before the days of Health and Safety. Barry Curtis received a PhD from Harvard University in 1975. He taught philosophy at various universities and finished his career as a tenured professor at the University of Hawaii in Hilo [IMDb]. Quite a change of career.

I just watched the start and end of Episode 1 (according to Classic TV Channel) and the song is the same as in Episode 3 (The time will come when everyone will know the name of Champion, the Wonder Horse.)
