Russell Davies says it is a drama based on the experiences of himself and some of his friends. I would imagine that's not to say events took place exactly as portrayed in the series, though the parties at the Pink Palace did take place. Ritchie isn't directly based on the writer himself, and he says the character's unfolding realisation about the HIV virus, and AIDS reflects "how much attention i paid to it - which was none at first." "We were all AIDS deniers - then t got real."
Although I told pasta that I didn't intend to continue, I felt that I should, if I was to comment.
Around that time gonorrhoea, syphilis and other STD's as they are now called, were quite prevalent as was uninhibited sex of both homo and heterosexual nature.
Condoms were readily available.
Did the gay Community really think that there would no price to pay for constant casual sex as displayed in the "drama?"
The acting was good, if you like that sort of thing, sadness escaped me and my attitude to gay sex remains the same........

The Heterosexual Community was very much the same I'm afraid. I was married in the early 80's living in Paris, but some of my friends ( aged 20 -25) in the UK were having multiple sexual partners, frequently without protection. Their main concern was pregnancy, and apparently being on the Pill sorted that out. One of my male friends commented that having sex using a condom was like eating a toffee with the wrapping paper still on -I found that funny at the time but that was the mind-set of many back then. Bit like now with youngers not wanting to wear masks .
Yes, APG it was, although I get the impression, no hard facts that the gay community was coming to the surface and had something to prove.....so to speak.
I didn't understand what was going but I remember being scared whenever the gov info ad was shown. I was in my very early teens at the time.
Omg so powerful tonight
My eyes hurt...as does my heart
So very moving, and so sad
Same for me pasta x
I wept my way through it.
