I can't bear reading all the Christmas greetings, everyone trying to outdo each other with better pictures of trees, presents, etc - its just another day and I hate it with a vengeance. It makes no difference whether people wish you a Merry Christmas or not, its what it is and no amount of fake posturing will make it any different. Had to turn my phone off this morning as it kept pinging with meaningless messages. When will they learn its a waste of time! Off to take my dogs out now before my steak and chips for dinner. Roll on tomorrow for the racing on tv.

Not got a problem with other people enjoying Christmas, providing they don't constantly try to draw me into their hype. I've been called miserable for many years at Christmas time, no its not, its called keeping a level head. Its after Christmas I see miserable people, the very ones who had all the hype and over excitement.

Bah humbug to you.
Nevertheless, Merry Christmas!
I don't hate it, lankeela, but i am always glad when the day is over - and not just because of the Boxing Day Racing Menu :-) I find it somewhat tedious that many on here open new threads just to wish us all a Merry Christmas despite most of them having posted on other folks' similar threads?
Hate is a strong word but I do agree that, for some of us, it is just another day on the calendar.
No, I love it - some brightness in the cold dark days.

Enjoy the racing tomorrow.
Me too lankeela.
Hate is a bit strong but I know what you mean.....unnecessary, is how I would describe my feelings towards Christmas, except of course for children.
I get you lankeela. I fall in with it. I've not done cards for a couple of years, though I've sent e-cards. I ask people not to bother but they still do. I do genuinely wish people on here all the best though, a greeting on here costs nothing x
Bah humbug. Every day can be enjoyed in your own way, doing your own thing.

That's how I feel teacake, just don't want them to expect me to join in. I'm not miserable, or unhappy, I just don't get it. I am not religious and people seem to forget that is what it was all supposed to be about.
No one should feel pressure, and certainly no one should apply pressure.

We never have, folk do as they feel.
teacake44@ I totally agree. I choose not to celebrate Christmas.
I hate the madness and the money spent..often by people that can't afford it....my christmas day has become a gentle wander through the day involving nice food , a long walk , wishing neighbours happy xmas and a few glasses...with just himself and me...It is just a lovely day for us.
//I choose not to celebrate Christmas.\\

No, you don't choose. You are ordered by the Watchtower society not to do so. If you do choose to do so you will be shunned or disfellowshipped.
JD beat me to it Goodlife. You may claim to not celebrate Christmas, but you know and we know that it isn't your choice, it's that of your religion. It's like me saying I don't celebrate Yom Kippur.

Anyway, I don't hate Christmas, I'm just ambivalent towards it. I pay lip service, and wish others season's greetings, but I'm not really bothered with it either way.
I think how each person views Christmas, or chooses to celebrate it depends on how they were bought up. If you were born in the 40/50s I think you're values and outlook is very different. But very far from miserable.
Jackdaw & Mozz71@ wrong, wrong and wrong. I am not a robot I do think for myself. Even if I was not a JW I would still not celebrate Christmas. As for shunning and disfellowshipping! You think you know Jehovah's Witnesses but you do not. Look at the Jw.org site and see for yourselves. Seems to me you are being prejudiced and biased. Lots of people do not celebrate christmas. I see the misery after the celebration. The number of suicides that occur and the break up of families.
I'm not religious in any way, but the events of this past year has made me think, that of my thinking for a long time, that we've been going in the wrong direction for a long time.
The virus has been very cruel, and continues to be so at the moment, but just stop and think,of all the things the virus has stopped us doing. A lot of the things its stopped us doing, is what we should have stopped doing.
I prefer a quiet time with some cheese, wine and cake, but i have to have my phone on silent to acheive that. I wished people a Happy Christmas this morning, now I want to relax rather than see their pictures and videos.

Still at least I have family who care enough to keep in touch!
I am not religious and people seem to forget that is what it was all supposed to be about.

I don't forget but all the religious stuff means absolutely zero to me.
So I (as many do) put my own spin on Christmas...which means getting together with family and friends.

(not this year of course)
Its only religious if you want it to be. Originally it was Yule, a feast for the winter solstice which I much prefer myself. I have picked greenery and berries this morning on my walk, and it feels Christmassy with the natural scent of the folliage.
