Yes i watched it. He comes across as being a very nice man and much loved.
I watched last night
He used to play football for Northampton.
i used to like his chat show, where he often discovered new talent, i remember Bradley Walsh being on one.
I wasn't a big fan of his but last nights programme showed him to be a genuine bloke, an all round nice man who made time for everyone he met, his wife spoke very, very highly of him, the love from her shone through. RIP Des.
Yes, I enjoyed it. It was a bit odd because they were making a documentary about him when he died so some of the comments are in present tense and some in past. He was a great entertainer and a lovely man. I met him, many years ago, when I was autograph hunting on the pier in Great Yarmouth. He was so kind to me and my sister and stopped for a chat. It is evident that he was well thought of in show business and had many friends.
A good all-round performer RIP Des.
Why did people make fun about his singing ?
that was Morecombe and Wise, who used to do it, but they were good friends apparently. He had many a fan for his singing, i confess i wasnt one particularly.
O'Connor has sold more than 16 million records around the world and appeared more than a thousand times at the London Palladium. In 1969 Des went international. 13 of his TV shows was pre-sold to America (NBC), Canada and Australia for a combined gross of £625,000.
there was more but you get the gist.
"In the day", I think he was a mum and dads favourite and not very cool with the younger generation. My dad used to like him, and he couldn't understand why I used to cringe when he came on the TV, and to be honest I couldn't explain it either.
One song that really did make my toes curl though was, I think called "dicka-dum-dum"
Bazile //Why did people make fun about his singing ?//
It was a standing joke originating from his appearance on the Morcambe & Wise show and perpetuated by them.In truth they were very good friends.
mine too, but it was a big hit. He had a long career so must have had something going for him.
A genuinely lovely talented sincere man. He always looked so relaxed and enjoyed what he was doing whether it be singing or talking to people
No scandal - there is much to be said for somebody in the public eye for so long to remain unsullied by scandal and gossip. He often had me belly laughing during his chat shows, a very likeable man
though he did admit that three of his marriages went west because of his work ethic.
Was anything mentioned about his gambling and being barred from race tracks due to his debts
no..
