I liked the Vicar of Dibley but if I watch comedy I don’t want to be reminded of Covid, BLM, the ridiculous 'woke' ritual of 'Taking the Knee', or any of the other rubbish we’ve had to endure throughout this awful year. I want to be entertained - so I won’t be watching.

Khandro - Stating, and believing, that Black Lives Matter is *not* the same as giving support to the organisation BLM. The fact that they share the name is unfortunate.

Good grief. It's a tv show. If you don't want to watch it, I'm sure there are plenty of other programmes on the 150 or so channels available.

Yeahhh Mozz, which I said in my OP, use your remote , simples
Absolutely Bobbs. Richard Curtis has always put elements of current affairs into his writing. This should comes as little surprise to anyone.
It wouldn't surprise me at all if already someone is compiling a petition online to get these programmes stopped.

That saddens me.
Question Author
Well it won't be me ;)))
Me neither, although in fairness, I wouldn't have watched it anyway. Was never a fan.
Question Author
Arh I always liked it especially the Christmas specials
It just makes me facepalm how easily some folk are triggered by a daft sitcom Christmas special.
Question Author
Err I was that one lol , it's me that said I won't be watching anything about BLM , I stand by that Mozz
I didn't mean you in the OP Bobbi, more some of the reactions. Choosing to not watch is anyone's prerogative.
Question Author
Yes it is and I see that too Mozz
Personally I won't be watching simply because I'd only watch it for some light silliness like the original series not for something to make me think. It doesn't mean I don't support what she wants to say. What it has done is given platform on here for those who aren't interested to be thought of as non-woke, dinosaur, fascist, outraged of Tonbridge- take your pick. It's already been mentioned on a different thread.
I haven't got an opinion on it...yet...primarily because I've not seen it...yet.
After I've watched it...if I do...I'll be better able to voice my opinion. But I like Dawn French...and love V of D...so I'll most likely watch.
bobbi, the inclusion of a BLM reference is not the first of its kind. In 2005 the Dibley special included the cast watching an item on starving children on Geraldine's tv set.

I was wondering how good a special this year would be with 4 of the main cast having died. I know Letitia was written out before the death of Liz Smith, and we have also seen the passings of Roger Lloyd Pack, Emma Chambers and John Bluthal.

If the storyline includes Dawn eating vast amounts of chocolate in lockdown I don't think that would entertain me. But the inclusion of BLM is another good reason to find something else to do during transmission.

I have no idea if DF would have felt the same had she not married Lenny Henry nor adopted a black daughter, Billie.

Me either choux but I've said all through my thread it's up to the individual, just not for me
Or me!
I agree with sqad, plus,I can't stand Dawn French or The Vicar of Dibley.
Well that 10 mins was a waste of time.
