Celebrity Sean Connery's Ashes to Be Scattered in His Beloved Scotland: 'That Was His Final Wish,' Says Widow
Sean Connery is making one last trip to the beloved land of his birth.
“We are going to bring Sean back to Scotland – that was his final wish,” Connery’s widow, Micheline Roquebrune, told the Scottish Mail on Sunday about the Bond legend, who passed away on Oct.31 at his home in the Bahamas. He was aged 90.
“He wanted his ashes to be scattered in the Bahamas and also in his homeland," she continued, adding that his family would like this to happen just as soon as the coronavirus restrictions allow.
“Whenever it is possible and safe to travel again, then it is the family’s intention to return to Scotland with him,”
I was happy to hear that he hadn't forgotten his homeland.

Mr Connery was regularly criticised during his lifetime for his oft-spoken alliegence to Scotland, while he chose to live elsewhere.
I think it's a somewhat cynical view, and possibly the view of envious people - as 237SJ has pointed out, loving your homeland does not automatically burden you with some sort of responsibility to only ever live there.
Unless you are rich and famous of course, in which case all bets are off.

The Hills and the lochs etc .....but living somewhere else, not just the Scots by the way , it applies to all those who sing from abroad //
I'm not suggesting that you are personally envious, more that the constant media criticism that Connery got was to appeal to people who were jealous of his luxury lifestyle.
I am sure there are millions of people who don't live where they were born, and have fond memories of their place of birth, to which they are fully entitled.
As I said, loving where you come from does not automatically mean that you have to live there forever, people have a choice about where they live, and it can be for reasons of which strangers, and the media, have no knowledge.
Cliff Richard spends a large part of the year abroad, he has a prperty in the Bahamas and one in Portugal, but no-one seems to moan at him for it?
It's just about media perception, nothng more than that.
I mentioned Lewis Hamilton who is similarly pilloried for living in Monaco, the media having decided that he does so to avoid UK tax laws.
Personally, I imagine Mr Hamilton is more than rich enough to have access to any number of ways to shelter his earnings off-shore and avoid UK taxes if he wishes to - thousands of rich people do - so maybe he lives in Monaco just because he happens to like it?

First of all, you need never apologise to me for expressing your view - everyone is entitled to think what they like, within reason.
Secondly, the notion that Mr Connery rescinded his right to have, and express, an opinion about the country of his birth because he didn't live there has a flaw in its logic you can drive a coach-and-four through.
If we are only allowed to express a view on anything because we are directly connected to it, then this site is going to collapse overnight.
You cannot ever express an opinion about anything to do with men in any form whatsoever, because you are not a man, so therefore you have no experience, and therefore no valid opinion.
Except of course, you do have an opinion, and as I say, direct connection, or absence thereof does not mean you can or cannot hold and express that opinion.
I am not an American, I don't vote in their elections, but I have views on it, and I express them freely, and so do many others on here, most of whom are not Americans either.
But under your logic, because we don't live there, we can't have an opinion about it.

I visit Montreal every year for two weeks for the Jazz Festival. It's one of my favourite places in the whole world, and I adore my time there.
But I don't want to live there.
Loving somewhere does not mean you have to go and buy a house there and live there for your whole life.
People can live where they choose, even famous actors.
