Some time ago I recorded an entire series on to my Virgin box from BBC2HD and kept them. I watched the recordings not long after the broadcast. I tried to watch them again today and got the message that I could not watch them as the channel no longer exists.
At the time of the recording BBC2 was on a separate channel to BBC2HD which was then on ch162.
Why should that affect my recording that is surely on the hard drive?

i don't know, but frustratingly i recorded a series on E4 a while back, and watched them all but kept them, but if i go to it now, i have to buy them!

Is that with Virgin too? I may have to phone them.
yes virgin. I would imagine they can withdraw content from your HD if they want to, just like amazon can withdraw content from my Kindle
There is usually an 'available until date' on Sky for on demand stuff. Probably the same for Virgin although I haven't been a customer for years now.

This isn't 'on demand' though, tigger. These are recordings on my hard drive.
I expect you are right, bednobs. I think I must invest in a recorder. I do have a DVD recorder but I would need a hard drive recorder (PVR I think they are called).
In the days when we had Virgin (abandoned earlier this year) recordings had a retention period, which could be altered, and had a warning symbol against them in the listing when they were going to expire.

I have never seen that - I have been with Virgin ever since they took over from Telewest 20 odd years ago, bhg
We had a Tivo box, if that makes any difference. I can't remember what the symbol looked like.
I think the same applies to things you have downloaded onto your hard drive. I had a series on my hard drive a few years back when I had Virgin and it disappeared.

Thank you, Corby. How blerdy annoying. I'll have to buy the dvds of the series now.
if you do, you know that the very next day the series will be on again, right?
Question Author
Naturally, bednobs. I record this particular series (Peaky Blinders) for my relatives who live overseas. They watch it when they come to visit.
its on netflix if thats any help
We are on Virgin and I tend to bookmark things I want to keep rather than record them and up to now nothing has disappeared. Have got things on there from over two years ago and are still available and they don't add on to your recording %.
