I definitely saw Elton John on his Yellow Brick Road tour in the Albert Hall, across the road from where I worked in the Royal Garden Hotel. But when I look this up, he doesn't seem to have played there. But I was there!! I know he played at Wembley Stadium in 75, cos I was there also. But surely my memory can't be wrong for the past 45 years! Can anyone help?

You definitely didn't, I'm afraid. For a start, the Yellow Brick Road tour was 73/74. In 75/76, Elton was already on the Captain Fantastic tour.

He first played The Albert Hall in 1970 and not again until 1987.

WHAT IS GOING ON??!! I remember going to work the next day, and talking about it! Where in London, and when, was his Yellow Brick Road gigs? Anyone? Please?
The Hammersmith Odeon, The Royal Festival Hall and Wembley.

Royal Festival Hall, maybe? 18th May.

Thanks JimF for trying to help. I know I was somewhere. Can't have been Festival Hall, cos I'd already left London by then. As far as I know I've never been to the Hammersmith Odeon. I think I'll crawl back into my cupboard now! Can't believe how many people I've told through the years that I saw Elton John in the Albert Hall. Never again.
Luzzly - it happens.

Rececntly, I have been taken on as a cruise liner guest speaker, talking about my music journalist career.

Research has led me to dust off my scrap books, and in the course of going through them, I find I have seen Sinead O'Connor in concert, and a David Bowie gig in Birmingham, and I have no memory of either of them!!!

Age is a terrible thing!!!!!!

Very scary Andy! But at least you can now tell people you've seen them. Even though the memory has gone!
Luzzly - that's true.

If I had known my career was going to last this long - forty-one years and counting - I'd have kept a detailed diary and written a book.
