"Hampstead" Film

I've just watched the DVD of "Hampstead" and was surprised to hear "Donald", after the Court hearing, described as a millionaire. How did he manage that?

Haven't seen the film but I'd guess that the land he [the man the film was based upon] occupied and gained by adverse possession was valued as worth millions. But when he died and willed it to charity it actually raised 'only' £154,000 due to an old law that prevents building on it.
