Really enjoying the re-runs of Scrubs - especially re-discovering what a gorgeous looking woman Sarah Chalke is.

I must agree - they jumped the shark with the latter series.

Did they add a laugh-track? That is the death knell for any comedy - which is why Mash producers took it off after the first series.

If you are providing intelligent thought-provoking comedy, your audience is going to be comprised of intelligent people who like having their thoughts provoked, and as a rule, people like that don't need a guide to tell them what's funny.
I loved the earlier series of Scrubs - does anyone remember Sarah Chalke when she played one of Roseanne's daughters (another brilliant US comedy)?
I dont like the ummm staple "what EVER do you mean by 'jumping the shark'?"
eyes pop in the usual AB fashion and wanders around snorting as if this is easily the cleverest comment she has made, ever, but .....

Question Author
PP - // … what EVER do you mean by 'jumping the shark'?" //

The phrase 'jumping the shark' refers to one of the last episodes of iconic US comedy series Happy Days when almost all the original stars had left, and the writing was becoming ludicrous. In the episode, Fonzie goes surfing and actually jumps over a shark on his surf board, seen as the nadir of a once great series.

From then on the term 'jumping the shark' means that a series has deteriorated beyond its own parody, and is utterly worthless and to be avoided.
