I notice that this is expected to be one of the places that an air bridge is announced to - ok folks, confession time - I have never ever heard of La Reunion and had to look up where it is!

I think it's where some debris believed to be from MH370 purportedly washed up.
A French Caribbean colony.
I've just finished a novel that was set there. It didn't sound overly inviting tbh.
It's in the Indian Ocean not Caribbean and yes I've only heard of it first from the MH370 story. It's not exactly where everyone is waiting to visit.
My apologies. Geography was never my strong point
Fans of world music tend to be familiar with Réunion as, despite having a population of less than one million people, it has a tremendously rich musical heritage.

This is the music of the island, performed here last year on the French version of The Voice Kids. (I've posted this before but it's such a joyous experience I've got absolutely no hesitation in posting it again):

It is also mentioned if you read reports of the Krakatoa volcanic eruption. So loud was the explosion in was said to be heard on the Indian Ocean islands La Réunion and Rodrigues as the "sound of heavy gunfire). Both these islands are more than 3,000 miles from Krakatoa.

Actually it doesn't look a bad gaff. I've been to Martinique (another French Overseas Territory, but in the Caribbean) and they seem to run things quite well there.
By all accounts, Réunion is a beautiful island:
