Bbc Tv Licence

I have no choice but to pay a fee to the BBC to watch any TV. I can choose if I want to pay to view Sky,Vigin etc, and if I don't choose to pay them, they do not stop me watching all the other channels, so why have the BBC this right? Is it time the BBC were a subscription channel, same as the others above, which I can choose to pay for, and if not, I can still watch all the other free channels?

we live in hope it will be stopped, ie license fee..it's pathetic in this day and age.

I too live in hope that the Licence Fee will be replaced by a harshly and effectively implemented subscription service.

Then we'd see all the members of the "I never watch BBC, so I don't buy a licence" club (who also seem to post quite regularly about BBC programmes) forced to pay their way.

I stopped mine recently. I rang them, saying, truthfully... I only watch Netflix, Prime and YouTube. They sent me a refund. I did point out that I am able to get live programmes on my TV... I don't watch them, but couldn't prove that. But that was ok.
If you don't want them, don't pay.

Dooglas - I don't live in the UK and so don't require a licence - I do have access to some BBC channels via Sky Ireland - who pay the BBC a fee on my behalf.

My comments come from the frustration of many years of watching cheapskate dodgers claiming some sort of 'principled opposition' to excuse their larceny.

I thought it was referred to as a TV licence, meaning you need it irrespective of which channels you watch. At least that was implied a few weeks ago when they sent a letter saying I would have to start paying for the licence again.

It's basically for "live" TV, Vulcan. If you aren't sure, ring them, they are very helpful

They've(the aBBC) suggested taxing the internet instead of having a licence fee. Don't ask me how that'd work, I didn't bother reading the article.

According to that the only way to not pay the BBC would be to have no internet, pay no council tax or have an electricity supply.

Think my MIL gets hers free, being of a certain age. Still paying for ours. Know people that don't as scanning vans are non existent and don't work, just a deterrent IMO.

Thanks all for your responses. Ah well, not much hope of free TV anytime soon then- I would start a campaign on Facebook if I knew how!! ....but know some grandkids who do!!!..um........ !
