Global population growth was very low until roughly the Middle Ages and then surged ahead rapidly, which it has continued to do ever since:

Most depressing statistic (without wishing other humans dead) is Africa. In 1900 the population was less than that of Europe. And for obvious reasons.

But in 2019 Africa's population is three times that of Europe's due to advances in shaman medecine and agricultural yields.
God help us.
