I find it difficult at times to have a conversation where I have to watch what I am saying, that could be the reason I make so many blunders on here,
My daughter is forever saying you can’t say that dad,or that’s not said anymore,my personal opinion is that it has gone to far the other way,yes there are some things should not be said and in saying that I find that the use of the F word in every day speech has become like god bless you to an awful lot of people.

As you all know on AB I am no Psychiatrist and my knowledge of Psychology is at best basic and at worst nil, but knowing Jordy over the years, as I have although i have never met him, is that he was born in Scotland of a working class family, probably many siblings,in the 30's above average intelligence but for whatever reason did not go on to further education....

This goes to prove how we each see the bare bones of a question differently.
sqad, not necessarily. When I was working, I came across quite a few people whose only lasting symptom of stroke was a change in personality, including one lady who changed overnight from a shy unhappy and reclusive person to a social and outgoing one. Those of us who saw her in hospital and had never met her before weren't even aware of the change until we met her neighbours and the vicar of her church!
Its interesting though isn't it that there do seem to be people for whom a diagnosis of stroke or head injury seens to equate to being "not right in the head"
Mamya rolls em back at sqad.
lol Sqad...but yes that was why I responded as I did.....when someone posts on here that they have noticed a change in themselves which suggests to me a physical problem which might be helped by seeing a doctor then why would I not comment quite seriously on that change?
woofy...the problem is that today every person who's opinions, actions and character HAS to have a medical diagnosis to support these aberrations...............and to the chagrin of the medical fraternity...they get one.

OK....I believe you woofy.........;-)
I concur with your diagnosis, Dr Sqad. She's had a bang on the head.
Many years ago when ladies came into the profession I was in one of the young lads on my team had real problems with restraining his natural profanity. I bought him a thesaurus for Christmas. Many "comedians" throw in a swear word when the laughter dies off.
It wasn't the character I was commenting on but the change.....If the OP had said "no I have always been outspoken"then fair enough....but what if the response had been "no I have only been like this for the last year or so" ?

Worked hard all his life, not accepting any handouts and brought up a family with the main input from his wife.
At a time when swearing Gays, transvestites were gender identities were not something that one would be interested in
Times have changed and like many others of that generation find it difficult to come to terms with.....it is that simple to explain the thoughts and actions of Jordy.
Woofy.......OK......(.another roll of eyes)
Growing up, my Father had a habit of effing & jeffing, but me and my sister never copied him. My Mum never swore like it.
We do swear occasionally now, though!
I swear all the time. Not my fault.
The word (effing) is a unit of excess, usually measured in two's.

ie, Two effing heavy etc.

You are spot on SANDRA,born 1937,youngest in a family of 6 ,left school at 16 had 3 weeks idle in 31 years,12 and a half hour shifts 7 days a week in rubber mill in Edinburgh for 4 years not so happy days.
"Its interesting though isn't it that there do seem to be people for whom a diagnosis of stroke or head injury seems to equate to being "not right in the head"
If that's aimed at me then you are so off the mark in understanding my comment I almost feel you are using it as best form of defence is offence.
I quite clearly suggested that if in the middle of a spat in news someone asked a poster if they'd had some kind of head injury then it would not be a genuine question, it would be a way of saying you must be mad or whatever phrase you want to use - and insulting to boot.
Anyway it's a pointless argument, those who can't see it might have upset Jordy however really surprise me.
The trouble is that you come from a time when you could say what you liked....and you liked what you said. You didn't have to consider the impact of your words on the thoughts or feelings of the recipient. And if they found anything objectionable *they* were the damn rude one for mentioning it.....

There has never been a halcyon time where 'strong' language was not used by women, especially working women. Where do you think the phrase 'mouth like a fish-wife' comes from.

I told my son that there was nothing grown-up about swearing.....the grown-up part was knowing when was and wasn't appropriate to use it.

I understand what you mean regarding the fishwifes jack the hat,but some of my family were from port seton and Musselburgh, they always objected to the saying swear like a fishwife, they said, swear like a navvy,as they were all fishwifes.
JTH...your points are well taken as is you advice given to your son.
As for "Fisherman's wives" they were a specific groups of people with extreme expletives not characteristic of the female population at that time and certainly not commonplace, even with children, at this moment in time.
I’m wary of posting , should my mental capacity be questioned . !,!
