5 Star Channel Missing.

I watch TV with a BT You View box.
A few weeks ago the 5 Star channel disappeared. It’s no longer on the TV guide, nor is it showing as a BT channel in the TV magazine I use.

I’ve done all the self help stuff - checking cables, retuning (last done yesterday) rebooting, watching videos on BT/Freeview/Youtube, and this morning, I’ve had the head banging experience of doing a “chat” with someone from BT.
They don’t seem to be able to grasp that I could get the channel before, and have done as much as I can, and why is it still listed as part of their package, but not in the TV magazine?
They obviously wanted to get rid of me as they were so clueless, and have given me another number to call, which will probably be equally as frustrating, but I can’t call until Monday.

Can anyone give me a definitive answer. Has BT stopped broadcasting the 5 Star channel?

Thanks.

5 Star is listed in the Radio Times as being shown on channels 30 for Freeview, 131 for Freesat, 128 for Sky and 151 Virgin. Don’t know if that’s any help?
Does your freeview need a rescan ?
I think your problem is linked to FreeView. I had loads of problems with disappearing channels. It turned out in my case to be 'background' engineering thing with the transmitter. Tended to be weekends for about 3 weeks. Then it stopped.
Very annoying and seemed like no information anywhere about it.

Thank you, hellywelly.
My TV magazine lists numbers for Sky, Virgin, Freeview and Freesat, but not BT, which suggests to me that BT have pulled the plug on that channel.
If that is the case, they shouldn’t still have it on their web site as included in their TV package.

My fave TV show is shown on that channel, and I suspect a new series will be staring soon.
Looks like I’ll have to wait for the DVD!
Have you got 5 star +1 on channel 56? Just a thought.

Got it on now, Freeview, Channel 30, 'Two and a half men' at the moment.
Question Author
No, kwillmott.
But I can get all the other '5' channels.
I've also got the My 5 app on the TV, but that won't give me any 5 Star channels either.

Is a rescan the same as a retune, Old_Geezer? If so, I've done it countless times.
I really have done all the self help stuff.
Question Author
Thanks, Baldric. Just checked mine, and it goes 29, 31, but 30 is missing.
Question Author
I've just checked my other TV which is Freeview only, and that skips from Channel 24 - 33.
Found the reason why this is happening. The updating is due to the mobile phone and digital TV frequencies being rearranged by the Government / Digital UK. Not a solution on the short term but is why they have switched it off. They are their way round the country.

“Being rearranged by the government”
Is that code for installing more privacy obliteration technologies?!!

Thanks, but it still doesn’t answer why it’s no longer in the TV magazine.
I'll try and simplify. They switched off the transmitter.

It will take a while to install / setup the new transmitter.
It is a temporary loss. But really annoying.

“I’ll try and simplify”
That’s rather patronising.

I'm not a techie, and have tried everything I can to help myself before posting on here, and I firmly believe that our privacy is being eroded by the day.

I appreciate your explanation. A link would maybe have provided more information, but I doubt it would have answered the TV magazine part of my question.

It's not my intention to offend or upset you.
The definitive answer you asked for is - Yes, temporarily. It will return.
I haven't mastered posting links that work.
If someone said "that's rather patronising" to me.....I'd leave them to get on with it themselves.

At the risk of sounding patronising here, kwillmot (!!) if you want know how to do a link:

Click on the text of the address bar (eg Amazon would read https//www.amazon.co.uk followed by lots of other numbers and letters) to highlight the text.
Click on “Edit”, then “copy”.
Then on AB, click the answer box and then go to Edit again and click “paste”

That’s how it’s done on a Mac. I assume Windows computers are similar.

I'm off to watch some telly.
Not 5 Star though!
If you have rescanned as in initially, ftom scratch, and not just looked to add channels, then if you are still missing them they aren't being received. Could be your aerial, but more likely a channel problem at your local transmitter
