Leicester Mercury Newspaper Back Issues ?

Is there anywhere online I could view back issues of the Leicester Mercury (specifically 1970 to 1972) or would I need to go to a library in Leicester ? Happy to pay to access if required.

Unfortunately the British Newspaper Archive (which is the fee-paying online service run by the British Library) only holds copies of the Leicester Daily Mercury (as the journal was originally called) from 1875 to 1950.

The newspaper might have its own archive. (Phone 0116 2512 512 to ask). However your best bet might be to contact the local record office:
