I live in the Portsmouth area which comes under the ITV Meridian region but lately on the1800 local news the entire programme covers the SE (Kent) and does't seem to cover Hampshire at all. Has anyone in the Hant's area any idea why?

Assuming you have an HD television, have you tried watching in SD and then HD? You may find different local news/weather on each....we do, in our area. (That said, we never watch ITV national or local news anyway!)
