I have just started reading Ronnie O'Sullivan's novel Framed - set in Soho's gangland and around a snooker club - fair enough, write what you know.

But Ronnie needs to check his memory, or get a better copy editor for his next book - his main character refers to a time when he and his younger brother pretended to be Paul Newman in The Great Escape.

Now I am no film buff by any stretch of the imagination, but I do know that Paul Newman wasn't in The Great Escape!!

Tut tut Ronnie, must do better!

He might have a thousand century breaks, Andy, but he has been known to miscue once in a while.

Poor young Ronnie looks like he has dug himself a tunnel. :-(
That’s funny Andy, what page is that on? Can you show a picture of the page?

I would not be willing to post a copy of the page because of copyright laws - the book is available, it is not 'vanity published', it is published by Orion Books who are an international publishing house - even if their Copy Editor needs to mug up on classic war films!
Novels usually aren't true, so I don't see the problem.

Obviously works of fiction are just that - fiction - but if you are going to give your character something to say that reflects on a fact, it helps to get the fact correct.

Good gracious, of course it's a valid link - I link to Google books all the time.
A fictional character in a made-up story makes a mistake regarding a movie loosely based upon a real event...Wow!

on of us doesnt know the copyright laws but pretends they do:
there is a specific exclusion for quoting excerpts innit?
with a fight over how long an excerpt has to be before it is a copy

dont take this too seriously - this is after all AB !

It's more likely that the link was removed because of the strong language on the page copied to show the error - and that contravenes Site Rules.
