It sort of....petered.....out
I'm still very confused. Too many flashbacks.
I enjoyed it (in a way). He was a bit of a lad wasn't he. Because the secrets must remain secrets the truth will never come out in our lifetime I don't suppose.
I just wonder how he never got his stories muddled up.
I wanted some explanation of *why* she took the final life path she did. Not mentioning specifics so as not to spoil it for anyone. Yeh...lots of questions. But overall, I really enjoyed it.
I really enjoyed it too. I think she became a nun because of the awful feelings she had about him when it really could be explained and, she understood.

She forgave him.
I enjoyed it too, but after so many roller coast bits in it in the last episode it did feel a bit flat tonight. Great acting though!
Still very confused,
I am just about to watch it will reply shortly.
So glad I found this site as I do ask questions and i have lots of answers but friends and family tend not to watch my programmes.
"It kind of petered out." That's life, I guess.
I will be interested to hear what you thought of it Stu13.
According tomy wife a cop out with no ending - glad I didnt watch it.
What a despicable man he was, whether good or bad. Who with any morals leaves wives and so many children in his wake. If he were my grandfather I would be ashamed of him .
I know anneasquith but did you see the lovely real life family that he caused to exist at the end? All knowing and loving each other.
There could never be a satisfactory ending because they, the families, don't know the truth or otherwise of his life. I liked the montage at the end showing the families as they are now. I wonder if MOD have a valid reason for not releasing information 70 years on or if they're just being awkward, surely at this stage it can't be sensitive.
The problem, i suppose, with ' basing' something on a true story, is that the writer has to invent the ending so that it actually blends in withe what has gone on before. As i said on a previous thread, Mrs Wilson discovered only Gladys, her husband's first wife. She never actually met or knew about any of the others. And, as she did devote the rest of her life to God, the writer couldn't really come up with any other ending than the one shown. As it said before the credits rolled, the family continue to investigate Alec Wilson's life, probably in the hope that the MOD release details of his service. If that were to be the case, i would imagine we would have another 3 parter from his point of view?
What about the character played by Keelie Hawks, Ken. I can’t remember her character’s name? Plus the one with the little boy who knocked on her door.
She knew there were more than, Gladys.
Hawes.
I've just watched it. I thought it was very good. Aren't some people such good liars?!
I'm curious about his "other" families...and their descendents now. What do they think?
Like the Indian fella said, he started to believe his own lies or mental illness. Married to Gladys, went to India and had a child with Dorothy, came back and met Alison and the other lady fits in somewhere when he was pretending to work.

A bit like 'A Brilliant Mind' if you ever watched that.
