i'm just ttrying to think of any "big names" have been in it in the past, but struggling
Yes,because they want to be with like talented people, not unknowns
what's the infamous Strictly curse?
I don't think so. Strictly is a huge commitment for anyone and the big names can't put their working lives on hold for 12 months.
They've done very well this year - they are going to pull in new fans because of the 'celebs' that will be appearing.
12 weeks! Not months - apologies. And of course there is the Strictly tour in the new year - a further commitment.
isn't the curse people shagging their dance partners and splitting up theri marriages?
I don't know, bednobs, I haven't seen much Strictly, I was just curious. Must be the allure of the sparkly clothing.
Is there anyone left to appear it? 'Celebrity' shows now have people who are 'famous' for having been on other 'celeb' shows. It's all disappearing up its own backside.

I did recognise a few people in the link. Was Danny John Jules from Red Dwarf in there?
or perhaps the fact they are together from dawn till bedtime every day for weeks on end?
Yes, Danny is in it, and is already getting stick because of his previous dance experience.
can anyone enlighten me as to who previous big names might have been?
could be, even if the real problem is after bedtime. Do they really spend that much time together? That might make any marriage wobble.
here's the full list

Not a lot of names I know there, but I'm not much of a telly watcher.
Some of them are determined to be their best, jno, and train for hours 6 days a week as well as fitting their day jobs in.

Some big names - Jeremy Vine, Anne Widdecombe, Jill Halfpenny, Alesha Dixon, Joe McFadden, Esther Rantzen, Quentin Wilson, Julian Clarey, Gloria Hunniford, Zoe Ball, Patsy Palmer, Jimmy Tarbuck, Stephanie Beecham, Don Warrington, Heather Small, Lynda Bellingham, Paul Daniels, Felicity Kendal, Lulu, Robbie Savage, Jason Donovan, Johnny Ball, Lisa Riley, Denise Van Outen, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Will Young, Ed Balls, Brian Conlan
I bet some of this year's contestants have been having secret lessons for weeks - long gone is the days of the totally inept clod hopper that we saw in the first couple of series.
of HC's list i recognise about half. About the same percentage of people i recognise this year.
Don't for get John Sergeant he was hilarious.
Just not looking forward to it this year.
John Sergeant took it all in good humour, I enjoyed watching him.
jno - // could be, even if the real problem is after bedtime. Do they really spend that much time together? That might make any marriage wobble. //

I think it's more than that.

It's the fact that the 'amateur' half of the couple is learning a new skill, and someone teaching you to be good at something you never thought about before can engender powerful attraction.

Add to that the fact that the professional is physically touching you constantly, with a level of intimacy you don't experience outside your relationship, except maybe for half an hour in the waxing salon.

The professional also sees you at your emotional lowest when you struggle, and enjoys your emotional heights when you succeed in a way that only that one person can, who has been there for every second of the experiences.

That makes for emotional intimacy, and that is a very short step to physical intimacy.
