How buttock clenching was Neil Diamond? Even the audience failed to respond to his prompting to 'touching hands' and at times he seemed to forget the words he has been singing for far too many years.

which programme are you referring to? I thought Neil had retired due to ill health
Neil has been diagnosed with Parkinsons and has, to my knowledge, given up touring. I was lucky enough to see him in Glasgow during his last tour and it was fantastic.
He was Sunday night at the London Palladium show last night. He was the last act and closed the show. Im afraid i turned off before he had finished singing.
def him, not a tribute act?
No, definitely him!
First shown - Sunday 19th October 2014.
Such a shame when this happens to a great performer. I remember seeing a TV showing of the late Glen Campbell on his last tour.He started by apologising for the presence of his daughter on stage explaining she was there to prompt him should he forget his words.Despite a few slips he turned in his usual fine performance and received a well earned ovation at the end of it.
Neil Diamond has always been famous for two things - the first and least important is the terrible toupees he still wears even now, and the second, and most important, is his incredible reputation as a live performer. His concerts are legendary and his fans adore him, as you could see here.

In terms of the 'touching hands' bit, everywhere else with the exception of the UK, people are far more tactile, and have no issue with grabbing the hand of the stranger next to them.

Over here you can't grab the hand of someone you are not engaged to, it's simply not the done thing.
Are you joking Andy?
ummmm - // Are you joking Andy? //

About which bit?
Andy doesn't do jokes.
He also opened the show with "sweet Caroline" which was great.
About only being able to grab the hand of someone you're engaged to.
He's winding you up , has to be.

Neil and my late Husband were drinking buddies a long time ago.
That'll be Auld Lang Syne and the Hokey Cokey out the window....
....and the Gay Gordon.
I saw Neil Diamond in Dublin last year. I have always been a fan and was prepared to be disappointed because of his age. However he gave a fantastic concert and was on stage without a break for two hours. His rapport with the audience was palpable.
Andy was making a wee joke !!!!
Anne, which is very unusual so I had to ask.
