The BBC only has the rights to show the women's tournament. Amazon Prime has the sole rights to show the men's tournament.

I don't think it is me not understanding broadcasting rights. Both have WTA matches only and Amazon have the Men's

So if Eurosport were showing it maybe they had the rights for that match and BBC didn't. Did Eurosport stop showing it and say "turn to BBC to watch the remainder?"

The BBC have the rights to show Eastbourne ladies ( in fact they use the same feed as Eurosport) BUT they often talk through the start of matches and go off in the middle of matches and send you to the red button. They often do it when they show Wimbledon, where they are forever changing from 1 to 2 to the red button in the middle of matches so you can't record anything and their Wimbledon repeats show is usually roughly 40% rubbish chat. Eurosport's coverage of Eastbourne has been far more professional but they haven't had much to beat.

It may be worth writing/emailing/tweeting the BBC then to let them know they are letting fans like you down. I agree that Claire Balding seems to get more shows than she merits based on her ability/appeal but I realise she ticks some boxes (although she probably does get paid less than male commentators/ discussers of roast lamb so it may be helping keeping down presusre on the licence fee)
