Cant answer your specific question, but whatever ISP you sign up with it is a BAD idea to have an email address from that company.

As you are now finding, if you change ISP you have to change email address with all the problems that entails.

Far better to have an email account with a separate company like Google (gmail) or Microsoft (outlook.com).

Then if you change ISP you can keep your email address.
I have had a search of the internet and looked at various forums and it seems there is no way to keep your blueyonder email address after you leave Virgin.

Seems it will be deleted between 30 and 90 days after you leave Virgin.
You dont, you should have an email account that's linked to an ISP for a main account, use Gmail, Yahoo or other non ISP email providers.

"If you disconnect your Virgin Broadband service we provide access to your Virgin Media Mail account for 90 days after your service closes. This should provide sufficient time for you to save any contacts, emails and files you wish to keep. After this time your Virgin Media Mail account will be closed"

Get yourself a GMX account:
https://www.gmx.co.uk/
Then use the 'mail collector' facility to get mail addressed to your old account forwarded to your GMX one. (That will only work until your old account is closed though. You can't get mail forwarded from a non-existent account). That will give you time to tell all your contacts about your new address.
Buenchico where do you find that facility???

Denzil,

If you have an Android phone it makes much more sense to use gmail (from Google) as that can also be used on an Android phone.

If you have Windows 10 then it makes much more sense to have an Outlook.com email address as that can be your "Microsoft" account for logging on to Windows 10.

just because GMX has been suggested it does not mean you have to use it and other email systems may make much more sense.
And look how many negative reviews there are of GMX here

Only 19 give 5 stars (top score) but 77 give 1 star (bottom score)
I've got a GMail account, Guilbert53, and I detest it. The webmail interface is nowhere near as intuitive as the one GMX uses. (I've also got an Android phone, with the excellent GMX app installed. It's not compulsory to use the rubbish mail app that gets shipped with Android!)
