Not only is Dermot O’Dreary a very dreary presenter, he is missing from his Radio 2 Show yet again this morning. I’m glad about that, because I’d rather listen to virtually anyone but him and Jo Whiley. But it shows again how clueless R2 bosses are. They relegate the incredibly popular pensioner Tony Blackburn to the 6-8am slot, and put the much younger O’Dreary on after that....yet he’s off as much as he’s on. What an insult to the legend Tony. Any thoughts?

Well I imagine he is taking a well earned break before X Factor starts again .

He takes breaks from his radio show all the time!

I’m sure the answer to the mystery voice is BEN MILLER, but I’m not interested in hanging on the line to win an O’Dreary mug
I much prefer to listen to the legend that is Tony..morning pop pickers !!
If you don't like him then the more breaks he takes the better you like it,no?
Tony Blackburn may be incredibly popular with you, but nobody else.

It's time he was retired to pasture.
Hoppy..you CANNOT be serious !! I love listening to Tone !
Oh my God, there's two of you.
his breakfast show and Love songs were stuff of legends... also on Radio Caroline..he was brill.. you have no soul Hoppy !! ;0)
Three- and I totally agree with the BBC being clueless. With the exception of Ken Bruce, daytime radio, Seven days a week, has become puerile broadcasting at its worst. Before anybody says you can always switch off, I have already done so.

today at 1pm.. I'll be there pop pickers !
I certainly won't
Hoppy you are a pooper !! ;0)
Hear Hear, well said.
I'm with murray here - Tony is a living legend, pure radio history.

He has cleverly made a hugely successful career out of not taking himself at all seriously, but also being seriously knowledgeable about the music he plays - his soul shows showed the depth of his knowledge about soul music.
Hearing Tony always makes me pine for the legendary Alan Freeman, always careful to distinguish is audiences - it was always 'Pop Pickers' for the chart show, and for his Saturday afternoon rock show, it was 'Music Lovers'.

Much missed.
nearly 1pm..get switched on folks !!
Dermot is quite bland, but he's professional on X Factor, I suppose.

BBC bosses appeared to punish Blackburn by putting him on at such an early hour - tough enough for a young person to get up early to start work at 6am every Saturday - but they also punish his listeners by doing that....and that goes against what a radio station should be achieving. Take note that Tony rarely misses his shows, yet Dermot is rarely there for his own. In most professions such frequent absences would cost a person their job - if only they’d do that in the case.
