The Falklands war ended this day in 1982..... 250+ British service men lost their lives. And a lot more argentinians......
What I'd like to know is.....
Where was the minutes silence for them??? And there have been countless other tragic events with multiple casualties over the years,..... What is so special about Grenfell?? It's tragic yes. But do we really need all this OTT almost wall to wall nonsense???

Remembrance Day in November covers those you mention.
Wasn't just Ggrenfell. There were recent silences for London Bridge and Manchester Arena attcks recently. And maybe Remenbrance Day covers Falklands. There is a danger they lose their impact though if done too often
I totally respect 2 minutes silence on November 11th and that's it for me. Holding silences seems to have become the bandwagon norm - and most of the people I work with feel the same.

Really??? And Lockerbie?? How about Lee Rigby??
With each awful tragedy that occurs there are people left behind who never forget - they can if they wish arrange a silence to be held each anniversary via local or even national media.

If you feel so strongly, maybe you could?
And what about the Roman massacre of Boudicca's tribe - thousands died defending Britain.

Boudicca was queen of the Iceni people of Eastern England and led a major uprising against occupying Roman forces.

Boudicca was married to Prasutagus, ruler of the Iceni people of East Anglia. When the Romans conquered southern England in AD 43, they allowed Prasutagus to continue to rule. However, when Prasutagus died the Romans decided to rule the Iceni directly and confiscated the property of the leading tribesmen. They are also said to have stripped and flogged Boudicca and raped her daughters. These actions exacerbated widespread resentment at Roman rule.

In 60 or 61 AD, while the Roman governor Gaius Suetonius Paullinus was leading a campaign in North Wales, the Iceni rebelled. Members of other tribes joined them.

Boudicca's warriors successfully defeated the Roman Ninth Legion and destroyed the capital of Roman Britain, then at Colchester. They went on to destroy London and Verulamium (St Albans). Thousands were killed. Finally, Boudicca was defeated by a Roman army led by Paulinus. Many Britons were killed and Boudicca is thought to have poisoned herself to avoid capture. The site of the battle, and of Boudicca's death, are unknown.

I'm sure you were not compelled to observe the minute's silence and were free to go about your normal day.

Where was the minutes silence for them???

It was on the Falkland Islands

I was part of The Falklands War, being part of the Remembrance Day Parade is enough for me and I will continue to attend for as long as I can.
Corby it depends what you mean by compelled - I work in a public sector environment and they are all marked by site tannoy announcements. I'm sure it is the same in at least all public sector workplaces. Of course you can ignore it but it's not expected behaviour.
Don't worry, judderman, you have Stephen Lawrence Day next year (and every subsequent one) to look forward to.
11am on 11/11 is for all past conflicts.
minute silence for Mark Duggan on 4th August?
I constantly remember my brother, killed in Aden in 1967, He was SAS. Also three friends killed in Northern Ireland in 1969 when a bomb was thrown into their lookout post, I was on my way to see how they were doing when the bomb went off. If I'd been 15 seconds earlier I would have copped it too.
Was it not because it was the first anniversary of the fire? Perhaps, just the direct community will mark future anniversaries. Don't particularly see a problem with it.
do they revere drug dealing scum on your planet mushroom?
Look what his death caused! I think Mushroom is probably a bit bewildered why they'd be a minutes silence.
Must admit it was very nice when John Bercow had to keep his mouth shut for 72 mins.
Everyone now has to be seen to be grieving and woe betide anyone who doesn't join in.
