When I was a youngster in the 1950's I was a keen reader of a series about the adventures of a group of boys at an English boarding school.
Sorry to so vague as I don't remember the author or any of the characters save for one Indian student who had a very exotic name (in those days)
It's not much to go on but I hope someone can recall these books.
Thanks in advance.

Billy Bunter - Greyfriars.perhaps?

//Hurree Jamset Ram Singh (known, in those pre-culturally-sensitive times by the nickname of "Inky"). //
The most obvious series of books from the 1950s would have been this one:

(I loved them!)

However if you remember an exotically named Indian student it must surely have been (Prince) Hurree Jamset Ram Singh, which means that you would have been reading the Billy Bunter stories (originally published in 'The Magnet' between 1908 and 1940):

could this be what you are thinking of?
The Jennings series is a collection of novels written by Anthony Buckeridge (1912–2004), as children's literature, and concern the humorous escapades of J.C.T. Jennings, a schoolboy at Linbury Court preparatory school in England. There are 24 novels in the series, excluding reprints and other material. The first of the series, Jennings Goes to School,[1] appeared in 1950, and new titles were published regularly until the mid-1970s (the last was Jennings at Large,[2] published in 1977, the only novel to feature Jennings during the school holidays), with two more volumes following in the 1990s (Jennings Again [3] in 1991, and That's Jennings in 1994).
The earliest ten novels in the series were reprinted in the UK in paperback, by Armada Books, in the late 1960s; and many of the novels were translated from the original English into foreign languages. Quite often, the character's name was not even retained: when published in France, Jennings' name was changed to "Bennett"; in Norway he was known as "Stompa"; and in Brazil, when published during the 1970s, the character's name became "Johnny"
Like Buenchico, I also looked at Jennings first but the inclusion of the exotically named Indian student led me to Bunter.

It can't have been urgent, the OP hasn't replied in almost a month.
