He had a serious speech impediment which he has worked incredibly hard to overcome - I applaud his efforts to show that it is possible to do this.

You might also have done him the courtesy of spelling his surname correctly - Peston.

As mum to a child who had to work hard to overcome a dreadful speech impediment I have nothing but admiration for his determination to succeed in his public work and not hide away.

Immediate answer - he has a terrible stammer and his way of speaking is the method he uses to overcome it. Yes, it needs a little patience, but I appreciate his massive effort and triumph. :)
