I just want to say that this year's Queen's Christmas broadcast was , IMO, the best ever.
Calm ,eloquent , thoughtfully presented, helpful and caring.
It truly made me proud to be British.
Also I could not help but compare and contrast Her Majesty's wonderful educated measured speech to the verbal diarrhea and abuse that pours out of the mouth of Donald Trump.
Any comments? Views from any USA member especially welcome .
(I'm assuming they heard it over there?)

Well of course it is - the different upbringing, the education level and the life lived is just a few reasons for this!!
FGS Eddie....I agree 100% with Islay........give Trump a break,
//Any comments?//
Yes, why bring Donald Trump into it?
Don't get me wrong I dislike Trump a lot but that's like comparing me to the Duchess of Cambridge!
I can't stand it (the speech)...or them (the royal family). Probably time to ditch both.
Mally, the royal family generate a lot of money for this country through tourists.
To play devil's advocate for a moment, France still has tourists going to see the Palace of Versailles etc and no royal family.

I like HM, although she has had a blip in the popularity stakes in the past, some other members of the 'family' need a good talking to.
I have visited lots of countries with no royal family and they all have a very healthy tourist trade......This monarch uses 4 huge homes....how much revenue would be generated if they were all open to the public......considerably more than is currently generated.

Another nasty little Anti-Brit crawls out of the woodpile.
"Also I could not help but compare and contrast Her Majesty's wonderful educated measured speech to the verbal diarrhea and abuse that pours out of the mouth of Donald Trump.“

Had Donald Trump made a horrible Xmas speech? Also the queens speech is surprisingly not written by her and written by her advisors I’m guessing.
Jahulaye - I beg to differ, the Queen does write her own Christmas message, unfortunately I can't get a link. Perhaps someone can help.

Mrs Windsor's been in touch to offer the services of her proof reader to help you put your thoughts down in something resembling coherence, Joolz. :-)
Thanks Sherradk
I thought she gave a nice speech. I couldn't give a monkey's chuff about Trump though.Hopefully he'll disappear up his own fundament sooner rather than later.
All the royal places are open to the public, including the above mentioned plus Sandringham and Balmoral.Buck House and Windsor are held in trust by the Queen for the state, she doesn't actually own them. She does own Sandringham and Balmoral though and doesn't have to open them but she does.

Just because someone doesn't agree with monarchy ,it doesn't make them a "nasty anti brit" at all Baldric. I'm a remainer but I still admire our Queen and what she's given to this country. Not too admirable of some of the hangers on though:)
I’ll hazard a guess the her majesty has not been at the mulled wine as I have Douglas ;) if the queen does her own writing then I’m impressed as her speech from what I can remember is very long and deep
I am always amused by those who, because they disagree with someones point of view, descend into name calling (bit like school children really). No one who knows me has ever call me any of those names ,,,nasty, little, anti Brit...it really is sad to see adults doing this. I suspect I am not alone in not particularly having any feelings for the monarchy ... but I am not anti British...though I equally couldn't care less about the colour of the passport I hold. Adults calling other adults names....sad.
I thought the Queen's speech was meaningful, thoughtful and hit the right notes given the events of the year.

I have not heard Mr Trump's speech and wouldn't begin to compare the two even if I had.
Why on earth would Americans listen to the queens speech , I know many British people who didn't ?
