Went to see this yesterday, well worth a watch. Good performances all round(especially Christopher Plummer as Scrooge and Dan Stevens who is excellent as Dickens) and a good story of how A Christmas Carol actually came about. For anyone thinking of taking children I'd advise that they are either aged 12 and above or if younger have a knowledge(book/film/DVD) of Dickens classic tale, otherwise it'll be lost on them I fear.
Give it a go, you could see a lot worse!
