It appears that EE and BT have jumped the gun – after rubbing their hands with glee following the Brexit vote, giving them free range to rip off UK citizens – free from any such restrictions from Brussels.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-4841452/EE-BT-users-BANNED-using-free-UK-roaming.html

I predict with absolute confidence that UK vehicle insurers are chomping at the bit to charge additional fees to anyone who dares venture outside the UK in their car.

The UK is not called Treasure Island for nothing by retailers and others – our MPs will do nothing to defend UK citizens rights – lost, once Brexit is complete.

I don't see the link between this article and Brexit.
Fine. I once paid for roaming when I went to USA - the d****d thing didn't work anyway. I paid for nothing. Systems have to be better than that now. Don't mind paying if I can use phone. What's the problem?
You vote out an MP who does not defend you. You visit his/her surgery and you nag. Agree, we are being milked. Up to us to rise up!
I blame Thatcher.
Plus, those terrible floods in Texas: you see what happens when one votes for Brexit ?
this is a commercial decision by private companies, users can accept or move, can you explain what it has to do with brexit?
ludwig, I thnk you mean "thank" - of course it is TGL that gives us the freedom to move to companies.
//However, it has now emerged that some customers are missing out because they have failed credit checks but were still offered a mobile contract.//

From the link. How do they get a contract in the first place if they fail credit checks? It appears that people who have no such credit doubts are OK. Perhaps BT and EE do not trust them despite letting them have mobile contracts. Security measure?
Correct Togo, anyone bothering to actually read the article would see this immediately.

But why let the truth get in the way of a good Brexit bashing if you are a remoaner?
“It appears that EE and BT have jumped the gun – after rubbing their hands with glee following the Brexit vote,”

You will find that few, if any, large companies “rubbed their hands with glee” following the referendum result. They virtually all campaigned for continued membership. The few bob the telecom providers made from roaming fees is neither here nor there.

Of course the £10bn a year that taxpayers stump up for EU membership is well worth it if it allows visitors to Europe to make a few phone calls without surcharge.

It’s very strange, Hymie, that you trust a bunch of unelected foreign civil servants to protect your rights but have no faith in your elected MPs and government. You obviously believe that Auntie EU is the only one who will protect you from the world’s harsh realities. Makes me wonder what we ever did without her.
