Is it true Billy and Todd are a couple in real life. I'm sure I read it somewhere.
I thought Todd was married with children.

No, it's the actors who play Billy and Daniel (Ken's son)

Thanks good goalie, I got confused, easily done!
Billy and Daniel are a couple in real life. And even though Todds character is gay, he is completely straight in real life.

That's what I thought Smow.
I would imagine it's quite strange if you're straight having to act gay in a soap!
No stranger than all those actors in the past who were gay, playing straight?
And of course Daniel is a straight character
I have to say I think Todd and Billy make a lovely couple, good looking pair !
Smow - //I would imagine it's quite strange if you're straight having to act gay in a soap! //

That's why they call it acting!

Any actor can play any character - gay, murderer, sadist, wimp, you name it, they can all do it - and I don't imagine it's any different playing an opposite orientation - just a day at the office.
I've never understood why they do that though. If they are going to have a gay character in something, why don't they use a gay actor, and if the character is straight, then using a gay actor doesn't work imo.
I find this conversation a little bit weird. They are actors, they are not playing versions of themselves. I agree with Andy.

Barsel - because you don't need the actor to have the same orientation in order to play the role - which is why they don't use real policemen to play policemen.

You need a woman to play a woman, a black man to play a black man, but you don't need a gay man or woman to play a gay man or woman - which is why they don't get hung up on casting them.
Strangely, I do too. I'll try not to let it develop into a habit. :)
It was just my opinion. You couldn't have Antony Cotton (Sean) playing a straight part but they have Daniel (Can't remember his real name) playing a straight part and to me it's just weird.

It would be difficult to cast AC in a straight role, but that is because he is quite camp, not because he is gay.

A gay man who appears to be straight can easily play straight characters, and even be a heart-throb, remember Rock Hudson? But a straight man who appears to be gay, because he is camp or effeminate, would struggle to play a straight role.

But that is down to the perception of the actor, not his orientation.
