I no longer have a tv in the house and intended to watch everything on catchup. I now find that not only do they want my email address, which I have no problem with, but they also want my date of birth. Bearing in mind all the fraud that goes on these days, do people think it is safe to give Channel 4 on demand and ITV these details. The optional details of address I am certainly not giving them. Thanks.

I think it's safe.
You might find yourself unable to watch 'adult content' programmes if you don't.
Could you not use a fictitious dob, near enough to your age? Just keep a note of it for future reference.
Yes it's to check you are old enough to see programs with 'age restricted' content, and a legal requirement. I can't see a problem with just your email and DOB

Okay thanks,
It also helps their audience research - the age range of viewers is necessary to them when programming.
So you won't be watching BBC either soon then. Login will be required to stop people without a license watching.
^ a password will be required by iplayer but I can't see how that can be used to check whether or not the viewer has a tv licence. You already have to have a password to watch the ITV Hub and All4 so there is not really any difference.
