Trying To Identify 1970S Tv Play

It was a play on TV, maybe circa '73/'74. It was about a bunch of public school boys who form a band. They gate crash a school play and it starts from there. They then become famous and slip into the usual rock 'n' roll excesses - booze, drugs etc. They performed some songs that were obviously written for the play. Melody Maker wrote a rave review about it. Any ideas?
