Following on from another thread regarding how unfunny Sarah Millican is, who is your all time favourite, mine has to be Max Miller, my dad loved him and I got to hear most of his stuff over the years, great timing and delivery.

Good grief! Where does one start? Should comic actors be included? (Tony Hancock, for example?). Sketch performers? (Eric Morecambe? Ronnie Barker? John Cleese? John Bird? John Fortune?) Comedians who don't need any scripts at all? (Linda Smith?) People who can be incredibly witty and, at times, outrageously funny, but who wouldn't think of themselves...

Jack Benny.
Mel Brooks
Steve Womack.
Les Dawson. Can't stand Sarah M. Find most 'new wave' comedians very unfunny t.b.h..
Mine change, StP.....used to like Billy Connolly til he went too far with his Ken Bigley quip.........some I like for a little while then get tired of....

But Dave Allen will always be a favourite.....x
Ronnie Barker
Dave Allen

and for a sitcom, the Father Ted team.

As far as one comedian is concerned and not a team or a side kick I agree with Hopkirk - Ronnie Barker
Dave Allen or Frank Carson

Dave.
Frank Skinner. A comic genius
Peter Kay.
Back in the day when he first appeared on our tele, it was Freddie Starr. Can't think of anyone from today's bunch.

Should comic actors be included? (Tony Hancock, for example?).

Sketch performers? (Eric Morecambe? Ronnie Barker? John Cleese? John Bird? John Fortune?)

Comedians who don't need any scripts at all? (Linda Smith?)

People who can be incredibly witty and, at times, outrageously funny, but who wouldn't think of themselves as 'comedians'? (Alan Coren?)

Brilliant stand-up performers (Joan Rivers?)

Those who combine stand-up with sketches? (Dave Allen?)

Those who paint scenes in your mind? (Al Reed? Bob Newhart? Victor Borge?)

Those who work with both words and music? (Victoria Wood? Dillie Keane? Tim Minchin?)

I can't really chose out of that lot but, simply because I've seen her performing live (and loved every minute of it), I'll go for the wonderful Dillie Keane:

I'd give macintyre the nod only joking
Bill Hicks and Frankie Boyle
Too many good ones to choose a single favourite.
Chick Murray, billy connolly, ,Kevin Bridges. All observational comedians,
Stanley Baxter for me
Eric Morecambe.
Les Dawson, Ronnie Barker and Bob Monkhouse. To name but three.
