I know exactly how you feel Andy, I for one, won't be going to see it! I raised this back in April.

Description:
I gave up on hte books when TT was announced as Jack Reacher.
Who, as memory serves me, was a BIG man
Question Author
Indeed Goofy - Reacher is 6'5" - hardly in tiddly Tom's range.

Quite apart from the 'size' issue, TC has nothing of the gravitas and presence needed to be Reacher - it's a part tailor made for Liam Neeson.
how can they let a little tiny squirt like tom be reacher? so sad...................

Mally - when you can wave as much money in front of lee Childs as Tom Cruise can, you can have Alan Carr playing Reacher if you want!!!
I read an article by Lee Child this week in which he praised Tom Cruise for his portrayal of Reacher. I thought how can such a great writer be so thick?
i quite enjoyed the film, if i hadn't of read the books i think i would enjoyed it more as i wouldn't of been muttering "he's not fekking tall enough" every 5 mins.....
Question Author
Craft - I refer you to my previous answer!
Andy, selling out your treasured baby (Reacher) is inexcusable...
Totally agree, gave up on the books as well after TC was cast.
Neeson would have been my choice also.
I have read most, if not all, of the Jack Reacher novels and like many, have, in my mind's eye, a picture of how he appears. The fact that Tiny Tom plays him on screen will not in any way over-ride this image so i will continue to read the novels as long as Child does not write them with TC in mind, consciously or sub-consciously. And i will not be watching any of the films.
We've been here before, Andy, haven't we...more than once! Wasn't it "a six-foot condom packed with walnuts" - or something close to that - that described Reacher most succinctly? Wee Tommy hardly qualifies.
I actually thought that Tom did a great job in the film. Yes I have read all the books so I know what Jack is meant to look like -but I feel that Tom did kick a*se in that film and I look forward to the next one.
Nooooooooooo
Terrific, and may there be many more.Tom Cruise made a fine Reacher.Lee Child is a producer on the films and therefore must have no problem with Tom.He must also be a practical man and realise that with Tom the films get made and with another actor they may not.You mention Liam Neeson, but he is too old for the role, and he has already said that his knees won't hold up for the action man roles much longer.
craft - I saw the Crime Awards a couple of years ago, presented by Bradley Walsh and Lee Child received an award. Him and Bradley were taking the *** out of Tom Cruise and his height in relation to Jack Reacher. I suppose if TC threw a lot of money at Child, he's not going to make his views known is he?

I have always thought that Liam Neeson was the ideal man for the role. I would NEVER give up on reading the books just because I don't like TC in the role. In fact, I've just brought the latest one "Make Me".

QM - "We've been here before, Andy, haven't we...more than once! Wasn't it "a six-foot condom packed with walnuts" - or something close to that - that described Reacher most succinctly? Wee Tommy hardly qualifies."

We have indeed my old friend.

The description of “A condom full of walnuts” was actually a description of Arnold Schwarzenegger by that wonderful writer Clive James, whose gift for a turn of phrase I envy with every fibre of my being.

He also described Barbara Cartland’s face as “Looking like two tiny crows had crashed into a chalk cliff.”

What would I give to be able to write like that!
I'd've mentioned the original source of the quote, Andy, but at the time I couldn't for the life of me remember if it was from Clive James or Clive Anderson! At least I knew it was a Clive!
Question Author
QM - Clive Anderson possesses nothing of the wit and wisdom of his namesake - in fact it is a mystery to me why he is employed by the media at all!
