So the followers of Banished are not able to see a further series because of the cost involved. But there is money available to film Songs of Praise from the immigrant camp in Calais. At a time when there is daily disruption I think it is a total disgrace and an insult to use the immigrant situation to make a programme to be shown on a Sunday afternoon. No respect for us as licence payers.

There have been arguments about some progammes being cancelled because of costs, and others made with apparently limitless profilgation - that is always the cross a Public Service broadcaster has to bear.

It depends on whether you think either, both, or neither are value for money.

As a non-Christian, I would have thought it was appropriate that the BBV is involving Christian worship from the place where Jesus would be if he were in earth - right there with the needy and desparate.

Never has been, they get our money too easily!
//where Jesus would be if he were in earth - right there with the needy and desparate.//

Nonsense! Those people are safe where they are. They’re only desperate to get to the UK.
What, you think all licence payers want to watch Banished, and none want to watch Songs of Praise?

In any case, the BBC is required by law to produce 110 hours of religious programming per year.

I do think there is an element of that - certainly.

I have seen Alan Yentob at Glastonbury, and he was at Cambridge Folk Festival this year, and I'm wiling to be he wasn't camping either time - or that he hitched there and back!!!
Once again the BBC gets attacked by those seemingly too unaware to see that they also unavoidably fund the Commercial channels' far greater budgets.
The Songs of Praise from the Calais camp has been cancelled . It is in all today's papers.
Was there an outcry when S of P filmed in New York or Strangeways or any other venue?

Nothing in my paper about it being cancelled. Mine showed them filming with Sally Magnusson
I can't find the cancellation either, maybe Eddie has a link?
Andy H is right here. I am not a Christian either, but if Jesus really did exist, then he would almost certainly be somewhere like Calais, or at a refuge camp closer to Israel perhaps. He was on the side of the poor and dispossessed, at least that is what Christians would have us believe.

The connection between "Banished" and " Songs of Praise" is entirely spurious and puerile.
I heard a lot of the participants are are refusing to take part as they fear they will be identified and their family's persecuted . I was sure it said it was being cancelled or at least postponed to a late date.
Mikey, //if Jesus really did exist, then he would almost certainly be somewhere like Calais, or at a refuge camp closer to Israel perhaps. //

Are you sure about that?

//For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always.//

… said by Jesus when a woman anointed him with expensive oil and was accused of wasting it – the suggestion being that it could have been sold and the money given to the poor.

You and andy-hughes really should keep Jesus out of this. Enough that the BBC is making mileage out of him.
Crikey, now we have to leave Jesus out of a Hymn programme discussion.

Mamyalynne, No you don't, but if you're going to mislead people by attributing to him qualities that he didn't possess, as andy-hughes and Mikey have, I will put the record straight - and I make no apology for that.
Ooops, I'll leave it to those who know his qualities then.

Sorry for the interruption Patsy.
Ya-da, Ya-da, Ya-da!
Interesting post Khandro.

Don't need to apologise Mamyalynne. We are all entitled to make our own comments.I have been accused of spurious and puerile statements. I am not going to comment on that. At least it is interesting to read other people's opinions .We all have our own.
Yes, I thought so.
