I've just finished watching this documentary I taped last night.I thought it might be a bit depressing but it was wonderful though it brought tears to my eyes.Wish all the care homes for people with dementia could be like Poppy Lodge.

I agree, quinie. I watched it too and found it very uplifting. My Mum's care home isn't bad but doesn't come anywhere near Poppy Lodge. The staff there are so committed - well worth a look.
I thought it was very uplifting and do believe that their attitude is correct in that agreeing with the old dears is a great thing to do - brilliant stuff.
I agree, it was very moving. More care homes should be like this and I thought that Craig in particular was wonderful with the residents.

Ta for reminder Puter.
Thanks for the reminder....a friend was urging me to watch it, so I promised her I would, with one condition...that she would watch Peter Kay's Car Share ;)

That's a fair swap.

Sadly most Care Homes are not like this. Though it was refreshing to see one that cares,
I thought the programme was brilliant. Sad but happy at the way the old folks were treated. If I end up in a home one day, I pray it would be as happy as this one on the tele. Very caring staff, everyone looks so happy.
I didn't see it. Were none of the residents frightened or upset?
It wasn't Utopia Sandy - but overall the residents seemed calm and most certainly well cared for and understood.

One lovely Lady was the wife of a resident and she had reservations, kept wanting to remind him of the here and now, he died quietly sat on a bench in the garden.

Very poignant.
She paid tribute to the staff/carers as did some other families.
No one seemed frightenend or upset. Couldnt believe how these oldies were treated. They seemed so much at home and not a care in the world. Maybe because they werent being reminded of the loved ones who have passed on and not being told they were imagining everything.
Great way to keep everyone happy.
