I think it's a wind-up, and I think the suggestion that it's making fun of creationism is right. Reminds me of the American woman who couldn't understand why children were taught foreign languages in school because if English was good enough for Jesus, it should be good enough for everyone. Her Bible being in English, she imagined that's the language that everyone in the Bible spoke.
