/// They added: “The typical fictional homicide is part of a planned series committed by a middle-aged white man or woman who is not intoxicated, sometimes using a bizarre weapon. In contrast, real homicides were almost all single, and were usually carried out by often intoxicated younger men from a more diverse ethnic origin, in an unplanned attack using a kitchen knife. They were also more likely to have a diagnosed mental disorder.” ///

In the quest to include more ethnic minorities actors in such mainly white TV shows such as Midsomers Murders, perhaps these could be cast as killers, so as to correct this inaccuracy?

But what would members of ethnic minorities be doing in leafy middle England? They'd stick out like sore thumbs.
like Morse, so many homicides in such a relatively small place, would likely see half the population being done away with
you don''t think Indians, Pakistani's live in Middle England, come on....
I'm sure we all know AOG was really referring to woolley pated yardies.
i don't know any woolly pated yardies, they have been replaced by shaven headed gun, knife toting, nobs.

Yet again, I hear the sound of a Barrels bottom being scraped in News!
The very thought that Midsomer Murders was supposed to be realistic quite makes me speechless ! This place has a crime rate worse than the whole of Columbia put together ! Its even worse than Jersey !
Breathtaking article.

Simply breathtaking.

Where do we begin?

I literally don't know where to begin with this.
Independent no less, well i never
I was told by a Dutchman that MM was unrealistic because there were almost no ethnic minorities involved(ridiculous plots aside). Where I lived in the UK the only ethnic minorities were the Indian and Chinese take aways. The vindaloo murders and the Bombays duck massacre are possibilities I suppose.

No but I think you are, since it is you who has put "woolley pated yardies"

I don't even know what they are, and can find no explanation regarding them after conducting a search.
jom; if a knife was involved he might be a chicken tikka stikka.
Yardie, Jamaican criminal.

Totally agree. I only hope this isn't indicative of a lowering of the Indy's standards.

It almost looks like a hoax report which they've fallen for.

Why not attack 'Agatha Christie's Marple' for its unrealistic portrayal of the lives of the elderly in 50s Britain?

Or 'Peep Show' for not accurately reflecting the lives of 30-somethings?

Actually I take that back...it's pretty much spot on.
Best part of the report:

"The researchers said that unrealistic TV portrayals of homicides may obscure potential prevention measures, including campaigns to make kitchen knives – used in six out of 10 real homicides – safer and less accessible."

What...the...hell...?
Jamaica has a massive problem with gangs and drugs, their murder rate is very bad, i have met one or two of these Yardies, not recently, and they don't mess about, if you know what i mean

Baldric

Thanks for that.

So it is an unintelligent bald headed drug dealing gangster from Jamaica, who happens to wear a woolly hat.

Are there really some of these in our country?
