I'm prob missing something here and I'm poss gonna get slated, but here goes ............
In tonight's episode of "All Star Family Fortunes", the family won 10k at the end and then told us which charity the money was going to : "Out There" - A charity set up in aid of families of prisoners (in the Manchester area ?) Ok, what am I missing - aren't people in prison for a reason ?? Why the freakin' 'ell should we be setting up charities to help their familes ??
Surely this money would be best spent on the victims of crime ??

It's up to them, i suppose.
Maybe they had personal family reasons for supporting that charity.
I can see that the children of prisoners may need support and are not themselves guilty.
"We" are not setting up charities to help these families; someone else is. Probably a group of local people looking after each other, one of whom got lucky and won £10k on the telly.
The families of criminals are innocent too, why should they be victimised for the crimes of their brethren?

Why should a child be denied a visit to see their parent?
I agree with you Gizmonster, although as the others have said its not really the families fault but yes, far more seems to be done for the guilty than the innocent if you know what I mean.
Really? Like what?
Maybe showing that society cares will have a good influence on the children of prisoners?
We can all choose which charity to donate to.....for me rather this one than the
RSPCA...but that's my opinion and choice.
The families of those in prison are the victims of crime. It's usually not their fault if their partner or parent is in prison. I'd give to any charity rather than the RSPCA gness.
Me too Prudie... once asked for help for an abandoned and neglected dog in a garden that I couldn't get to.....nothing but rudeness from the RSPCA.
The bloodhound is the only animal whose evidence is admissible in an American court.
Whoops!!!! Wrong thread but it's made me giggle. x
hate these charities that shave off >10% for their administration costs....often to pay for those PIAs (pain-in-the-asses) that pester you on the street.

I know that it's not the family's fault, etc, but I can't help feel that some prisoners would be scoffing at the fact that their families were being helped after their wrong-doings.
I can understand some people thinking that this is more of a worthy cause than the RSPCA, but if it was a toss up between this one, or a charity for the victims of crime - I know where my money would be going ......
The actress played the part of a prison officer in Emmerdale. Perhaps she did some research and thought the charity worthy.
Agree again Gizmonster, if the 'prisoners' do not have the forethought to think of their family then why should strangers. I know its each to their own which charity a person supports but I could think of 100's more deserving.
The only answer I can think of for my feelings Sillie is that I really hate to see children suffer.
I do know what you mean Gness, I do too but as you cant give to everyone you have to give to Charities close to your heart.

Tricky one. If your partner is the main 'bread winner' and he ends up in clink then the family and dependants will ultimately suffer. Family shot to pieces, little sympathy from friends and relatives, nowhere to turn, probably need a charity to help you out (the partner probably doesn't stop to think how the family will deal with stuff if they get caught). Each to his own when it comes to charity (do you watch CDWM - hey never specify the charity in the celebrity editions).
Children still need support when someone close is in prison. They're victims in their own right.
