Just wanted to get some opinions about the Peter Barlow storyline. Peter gives up his own son to his ex wife Leanne, who is not even the child's mother, it appears that he did so under pressure because he wanted to see the best for Simon who said that he wanted to live with Leanne. In my opinion he did the wrong thing and should have kept Simon but I know that plenty will have an opposite opinion.
He realised that he should not have given Simon away and we see over the next few weeks that he falls apart as he realises the consequences of his actions.
You would have thought that a lot of people would realise that he was drinking due to the fact that he realises he wrongly gave his son away, but everyone in the street seems just to consider him an alcoholic who should not be responsible for a child.
The next thing is that Leanne decides that it will be in Simon's best interests if she moves away with her new boyfriend Nick which means that Peter will have very little access to his son if at all.
I know that it is only a storyline, but the real incredulous thing is the apparent acceptance of the likes of his parents Ken and Deirdre, all Ken can do is pull his usual concerned expression. plus Gail who only seems concerned that she may lose Nick.
To me the idea that it is okay for Ken and Deirdre to see Peter give up their grandson to Leanne is ridiculous but they do not seem to care that she intends leaving, potentially taking all access from their grandchild and this seems be stretching the truth a little too far? It seems wrong that they could even consider supporting Leanne?
I would be interested in others thoughts on this one!

well I doubt it would be allowed to happen in real life but I do find it a very gripping story line in particular the effect an alcholic has on the lives of those around him
Well, I actually don't think grandparent's have any rights to intervene, but I think that the child's best interest would be to live with the parent who is more stable and who he wants to live with (i.e Leanne) Peter is a bad tempered, immature alcoholic who is not fit to be in charge of a child.

I don't see that why Ken or Deirdre should have any rights of access.

But as you say, it's only a story ;o)
grandparents with apostrophes!!! Whoops
And I would support an ex daughter in law who was capable of providing a secure home rather than a son like Peter!! The child is who should come first in all respects, not the parents and definitely not the grandparents.
Hear hear LL agree entirely. What I thought amusing last night was Kirk when he thought he was being groomed for a gay relationship.

W Ron.
Kirk is one of the better comedians in Corrie...............he's under rated.
That was lovely Ron. I love Kirk!!
agree ron corrie at its witty best.
Agree Craft. Glad this story line has come about. Kirk's has been neglected.
kirks to thick to survive in real life without a carer !
Kirk was hilarious last night...'kool and the gang'...lol
he's been off dancing though!
anyway, it all happens very quickley in soaps, the writers think we have the attention span of a goldfish, my lunch is ready must go

Thanks for your answers, it seems to me though that the alcoholic storyline was bought in again as he had seemed to be dealing with this problem very well for a number of years, of course it suited them to bring it back as an issue to enable the latest storyline to take place.
I am in the support Peter camp rather than Leanne who is strident and aggressive in getting her own way!
Agree that Kirk was very funny last night, with the sad demise of the actress who played Blanche (Maggie someone?) there is not enough comedy in Corrie at the moment. The actress who plays Mary is given a few funny lines occasionally it will be interesting to see how her new found 'passion' for Roy is played out!
Thanks again for the replies

Just thought that no one has really answered my question about Ken and Deirdre! Agree that grandparents have no rights as such and that they probably want to see their grandchild with someone who can provide a secure and stable life, but would any grandparent who loves their grandchildren really be happy for the ex wife to take them off, possibly to another country leaving them with the chance that they will never see him again?
I would have thought that this could make them more supportive of Peter and to help him try to gain back custody of Simon with them also involved in ensuring that Simon is safe?
A lot of parents who are happily married go off with their children with a chance that grandparents may never see them again. Just think about people going to the other side of the world, Sue. I agree neither Peter nor Leanne actually have a good past record, but still think Leanne is the best bet - after all it was she that was given residency custody. Peter hasn't been off the bottle for a couple of years surely? I am sure it was much more recently that he had another drinking bout.

Blanche was priceless. Somehow I found Mary really annoying, rather than funny.
I too think Simon is better off with Leanne, but I still feel sorry for Peter (probably something to do with the fact that I fancy him!). Leanne is definitely the better parent, but as she isn't actually his real Mum and hasn't even adopted him, would she get custody in a Court of Law I wonder? Don't Carla and Peter go off this week without Simon and Leanne keeps him? I know C and P are going out off Corrie for a bit. I think Ken and Deirdre are trying to do what's best for Simon which is why they're backing Leanne.

And as for Kirk and him telling Marcus that he thinks about women 24/7, especially women with big chests, well I was in fits! Absolutely excellent. Marcus by the way is a great character, would love him as a friend.

Knows it's not real (lol).

Hi Lottie, agree about parents taking their children to live abroad, but this is a case of Leanne taking him against Peter's wishes. The chances are very high that Leanne would allow no contact at all in order to make a clean break.
Spoiler alert!
Yes I understand that Peter and Carla are both leaving Corrie for a break, but should be back in the autumn and I believe that Simon stays with Leanne so I think it will all be resolved soon anyway!
Spoiler alert 2!
I also read somewhere that Maria gets pregnant by Marcus, she keeps the child which makes him a father as he has always wanted to be. May or may not be true as I also read that she is going into a relationship with Jason!

Sorry Craft1948 I meant to thank you in my last post for the video, I have seen it before but always enjoy it every time I watch it. It has to go down in history as one of Corrie's finest!
I've heard that about Maria and Marcus too. He must be drunk when he sleeps with her because as gorgeous as she is, he definitely prefers men!! I'm glad his character is staying, he's great.
